Only 2 more days till release of the future, don't be left behind! it's a FREE gift from MS Retail Value is $119.00 and it's going to be Awesome! I have previewed it and am in forums with many techs trust me I know. Also it will download automatically to your PC if you reserve it, then it's up to you to install or proceed. Any questions post them and I will try to answer. Susie is my name here but mostly I am known as Aputernut and I fix PC problems for others even by remote.

Updating, if you run Windows, may not be avoidable. It's going to be bundled with all of the udpates that come out for Windows 7 and 8.1. http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/06/26/free-windows-10-upgrades-danger/ Also, it may not be as "free" as they'd like you to believe. Microsoft keeps referring to the revenue stream (the money they make by selling windows and support) as "delayed" until the future. They're very tight lipped about how that's going to work, but "free" doesn't pay the bills and allow for dividends on Fortune 100 stocks. There's more on the possibilities here. http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/07/10/free-windows-10-charges/ I still have a couple of machines that run Windows (dual booted with another OS so I don't have to run it) and both will have automatic updates turned off.

Is Windows 10 going to be really that good? They haven't really been that successful with Windows 8

Yes, W10 will be all that good! I happen to think my W8.1 was great! and Yes W10 is 100% Free however after W10 there will be no more Windows numbered DVD's or OS's as we now know them, after W10 which has support for 10 yrs. if you want the latest OS then you will subscribe to it and yes you will pay for that, and if you do not pay it simply will not run no doubt?(you do not have to subscribe however) Hope this clears up a few rumors.

I hope that Windows 10 is all you hope it will be, but considering Microsoft's track record with highly anticipated, and highly touted, offerings such as Microsoft Bob, Windows ME, Windows NT, and Windows NT 2.0 (along with a host of applications that fell by the wayside), a wait and see attitude might be best. The earliest adopters often ride the "bleeding edge" of technology. That can be an uncomfortable place to be.

More disturbing news about Windows 10. The links are to archived copies of the articles. Some of these are speculation, but are based on real dangers. Waiting for the dust to settle is looking better and better.

    - Microsoft owns Pando Networks, famous for the malware/botnet Pando Media Booster.
    - Windows Update in Windows 10 utilizes P2P by default, most likely the same P2P technology used by Pando Media Booster.
    - Essentially it turns your PC into a zombie host server, wasting your bandwidth serving updates to other computers.
    - This also means Windows Update might be hacked by a third party and utilized later to spread malware through the P2P system via 0days.

    - You cannot turn off "Telemetry" unless you own Windows 10 Enterprise Edition.
    - This means your computer will continuously leak unspecified information to Microsoft and there's no way of turning this off.
    https://archive.is/3yo92

    - You cannot turn off "Real-time Protection", aka Windows Defender. Even if you do it will turn itself on again after a while.
    - This means you cannot prevent your PC from sending random files and information to Microsoft for "analysis". https://archive.is/Dln44

    - Cortana (the new digital voice assistant, kind of like Siri on Iphones) has zero local storage functionality and does not function unless you have a Microsoft Account connected.
    - It will even inform you about this if you try using it on a local account, and then shut itself down. Not an issue for most, but for those that need the voice assistant, it's a definite privacy issue. Something along the lines of the data captures done in Google Chrome. More on that here. http://www.forbes.com/sites/marcweb...le-chrome-to-eavesdrop-on-your-pc-microphone/
    https://archive.is/2Vw55

    - Windows 10 start menu will have "Content suggestions" which are on by default, which means you'll be seeing ads. You can turn it off for now, but that revenue thing keeps coming up and ads are a great way to generate revenue.
    https://archive.is/0ltgw

    - Windows 10 "Wifi Sense" will be begging for your Facebook account details so it can get to know you better.
    - It will also be sharing your Wifi password with all your Facebook/Skype/Outlook friends, their friends, as well as Microsoft.

I'm glad you're so happy, but it looks like I'll remain quite foolish. Spyware and unknown subscription fees are just too big a risk.

Subscription fees for the next OS will be optional, I will keep W10 Luv it! installed on 3 out of 4 of my PC's so far, plus if you have a good spyware and av, then N/P I'm not that paranoid! after 15 yrs. at least of PCing and no problems.

I am not sure I like windows 10....it has so much stuff that I will never use...I will give it a week before I decide to take it off. I don't understand how or why you should use apps....so many changes and why would I want a store on it?

My number one complaint and most important to me is.....WHERE ARE MY FAVORITES from windows 7....no one said anything that I read about them not being transferred....and why does Microsoft want me to sign up ? Do I loose my old e-mail?

I took it off already...it just wasn't for me. It was fast but I don't like having to sign in for games , etc. or having areas to order things. If I want to buy something, I will find it myself. I did find my favorites but they put them in a long list instead of the normal list...enjoy it if you like it, I will never add it again. I don't need cloud and to sign into Microsoft.
