I want to get started on planning my duck's house. My problem is that I have no idea how tall to make it. I am putting it up on cinder blocks since we get a lot of snow here. I want to put the roof in 2 sections on hinges so I can open it to clean it out easier.

My problem is that I have no idea how tall to make it. :headscratch:

I tried to look it up on line searching for "Duck house plans" "Duck House height" and "how tall is a pekin duck?" and I couldn't find the dimension.
I don't want to make it uncomfortable for them to walk around in it but I don't want to make it taller than I have to since I will be to bending over it to clean it out. It will be adjacent to my greenhouse so I will only be able to reach in from one side.

I found these two websites that may give you some ideas GT.

// moderator note: links now broken

If they are no good then try Googling under 'How to build a duck house' and you may find something more suitable.

Thank You!! You sure found those fast. What a difference the wording makes.

The first link has it 24 " tall. I can easily do that. They don't say what kind of ducks they have.

I will go with that since the second link is using some math that is not working for me: :D

Oh my gosh, Gardentoad, THANK YOU for the best laugh I have had in a long time. I cannot stop laughing about that Math problem you were having. Your dry observation really cracked me up....

But really, good luck with your duck house. It will be fun to see how it turns out and how the babies like it.

    Still laughing.

That's some funky math. Makes you wonder if anybody has managed to build one following those guidelines and what it would look like, hehe.

Just out of curiousity, when you say "my duck", do you mean you have a domesticated duck, or just one that comes back every year?

Looks as though they made a real boo-boo when they put in those measurements. :D I think it's supposed to be 1" thick x 12" high x 3' long - it's the only way it would make any sense!!

Gardentoad, I'd like to see photos of your Ducks. I just love Ducks! We have them on our lake, but they refuse to become our pets :D
We have some friends that have 3 very spoiled, pampered white Ducks. They are so fun!
Good Luck on building that Duck house!
