OK so when I move at the first of the month, this is what I get..... This is a pond that was dug about a year ago.Its backed by the deck. The back peice that sits higher than the pond is where the fountain sat. Now, they took the fish, pump and fountain a few months back because the ppl living there werent taking care of it. And the god aweful center peice The wonderful water Now what you cant see or if you look at the top pic closely youll see that the gravel is covering plastic. This is suppose to be keeping the weeds out. Now heres my plan and I will need your help to do it...cuz I got the image in my head but not the know how...LOL After I clean that nasty thing out..... I want to build a waterfall on the back peice..I want to build it out of real river rock. Around it I would like to plant my [info=caladium]elephant ears[/info] and [info=banana tree]Banana trees[/info]...tho I can keep those (banana trees) potted and keep them on the deck behind the waterfall. Now around the pond itself, I want to put up a raw wood small fencing to match the decking.....maybe knee high...something to stop a kid from walking into the pond. Now as for around the pond I was thinking my [info=canna]cannas[/info], [info=Pennisetum setaceum]fountain grass[/info] , [info=Strelitzia]bird of Paradise[/info] and odds and end flowers and plants....really build up that tropical, natural feel. Now around the edges of the pond I was thinking of reshaping it with real river rock...to make it look more natural...and getting rid of the gravel. And I really hate that centerpeice. To me, its god aweful! I was thinking maybe building something out of the same riverrock...like a rock tower or a river rock planter and plant something in the planter. But I want it to look natural..so I was thinking maybe start building it from under the water line. I would LOVE to hear ideas on this! Everyone has such wonderful ideas!! This is going to be my winter project! So its ready by spring.
Ewwwww wee! That water is grosss!! lol!I think this pond has alot of potential!! I started my pond and then filled it back in so I'm probably not one to take ideas from!!!LOL! I think the river rock idea will make a huge difference with the way it looks. I agree that is a sad little centerpiece!! What kind of liner does it have in it? You've got your work cut out for you,but being as creative as you are it will look fabulous when you are done!!!
It looks to be the plastic that you put on windows to stop the cold from coming it. The cheap stuff. But I havent gotten to see whats under the water line yet. Being as its holding all the water, Im thinking that it has a pond or fountain liner in it.
I have lots of images but I am like you just wouldn't know where to start . I like the river rock idea .Can't wait until you get it all finished and see what it turns out to look like. Good Luck.
Hey ,Just poped into my head why not build the river rocks up out of the bottom and drill a hole a hole all the way through a bowling ball .Then cover it with river rock pebbles and make a water foutain or use the marbles to cover it .

OK was just thinking.... drill a hole all the way through the bowling ball....cover in river rock pebbles...using large river rock build a place for it sit in the center....when the ball sits on it, the water runs down from all sides and collects in a "bowl" of river rock and flows over the sides into the pond. Did I explain it well? The image is in my head and sometimes I dont describe it very well.
Yes, thats exactly my piture .I would love it in my yard .I hope the glue would be water proof .I bet you could go to a lumber yard and get some really good glue.
Denee, use GE Silicone II for windows and doors, or aquarium sealant. Both will hold up to water, I think if the water is moving or the parts covered by water the aquarium sealant would be better. That sounds nice for a centerpiece. If you add any other plants, add ginger. Butterfly ginger smells wonderful when it is in bloom. Pinecone ginger adds fall color and hidden lily ginger is just pretty and tropical looking. Shell ginger is varigated, really pretty, but they all like partial shade, not full sun. So they may do well in that shaded corner in the first pic. I didn't know you were moving, guess I missed that.
Ive moving just down the lane...instead of #7 Ill be living in #4. LOL Now everything is in full sun by mid day...about 1pm. and stays in full sun until sundown...does that matter?
It has potential... Actually if it were me, I'd rip it out and start over and get rid of that island. See what they used as underlayment, you might be able to reuse it and build a nicer shape, but it would probably end up smaller. Looks like it's full of string algae. Take something like a toilet brush and just start turning the thing and the stuff will come out in big heaps! That's the easiest removal. I'd take a shop vac and drain that puppy to see what you've got. How to build a pond You have your work cut out for you. You have to clean that one out first. I would almost be tempted to fill it in with sand or soil and start over. That way you can have the pond any size/shape you wish. Jan
