My Mother in Law gave me like 25 "cherry" tree seedlings 4 years ago and I planted them all along the property line and in the front and back yard and waited for 4 years to see them bloom. This was the first year they bloomed and they were beautiful with there white flowers all over them. A couple of weeks later they started growing "cherries" and they kept getting bigger and bigger... and that's when I realized it... THERE All APPLE TREES YOU MORON! Now I have to dig them all up and start over! I cant believe I never noticed they were apple trees and NOT the cherry trees I thought I was planting. I already have a ton of apple trees and I never noticed that the leaves were the SAME. Is that funny or what?
What a disappointment, after four years, to find that all the cherry trees were actually apple trees!! What will you do with the excess apple trees that you'll have to dig up? It seems a shame to just discard them if they are healthy and producing fruit. Fingers crossed you'll be able to grow on some cherry trees soon and that they'll eventually be heavy croppers for you.
Good luck with finding proper cherry trees to grow. Your story goes to show that nothing's ever certain in gardening.
Goodness, dig them up, put them into big pots, and see if you can sell them to a nursery that will give you a break on some cherry trees!
What a surprise that must have been! You know what they say...when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life gives you apples, make cider. LOL
