When I go into different places on the internet and something pops up I am not sure if I should allow it or not, how do you know if it is alright to allow it? What things are bad to allow? I have had names pop up that I have no idea what they are for so I don't accept them. Then all of a sudden, it tells me I have no flashplayer, etc. I am so confused on what to let on my computer and what is going to cause me problems. Any help will be appreciated....Sherry8
Don't accept anything your iffy of, and download a free scanner for cookies and crap, I love and use sQusi, and run after every visit to the internet sometimes during, it's super fast and efficient, had Adaware but it's too slow for me, then you get rid of all the junk....
I am not sure if they are cookies or just something that you have to accept to use their site..I have been using certain sites and doing things there and now I have to use firefox to get in. I do not know what is good or bad to allow it on my computer to operate on sites that I visit...Sherry
Do you mean I can accept and then clean up after I use the site, that would kind of take me all day because I use so many gardening and nature sites...Sherry
It takes a few seconds for sQusi and you can run it anytime, I can run it right now as I type this if I want too, then run again before shutting down PC, not sure you must be getting pop ups?? they are almost always junk or offers for downloads, which you should not accept anyway from websites, unless it's a download you ask for..most of these type sites while we are here, cookies are loading up into our PC's, one of the pitfalls..
Cookies cannot damage your computer in any way because they are just text files and not programs that can execute all sorts of nasty behaviour. The main reason that cookies get a bad name is for privacy reasons e.g. a website can identify visitors uniquely even if they return after a few days. GardenStew uses cookies to keep you logged in. Without this the system would sign you out every time you visited a new page. A website cannot read the cookies left by another website, they can only read the cookies that they themselves send down. For example eBay couldn't read Yahoo's cookie and vice versa. That said it is probably a good idea to clear out your cookies ever now and then as you do download a lot over a period of time. I'd be much more concerned about spyware and adware. These usually get onto your machine because the user actively downloaded a piece of untrustworthy software or opened an email attachment containing a malicious program. A good anti-virus program is needed in this case.
I've got FireFox with ad-block add-on and a pop-up-blocker, and I really like those features. When the girls visit children's sites with lots of commercials, I block the commercials and the girls can't click on anything they shouldn't click on by accident. I also have an anti-spyware program and a good anti-virus program, but I've still had a couple of bugs in my machine. Thankfully it didn't do any harm.
So Frank as you said when I get a warning about persistent cookie from apmebf.com, I can accept them? What I wish they would do is make it so you understand where they are coming from for which site. I have CA personal firewall and it keeps asking me if I allow or if I want just click and agreee with what they said, access was denied. I keep getting these about google too and a lot of others. It says to allow access, click to add this site to Manage Sites under firewall privacy. I go on a bird forum that says they take off the cookies when you leave when you click out. I wasn't too worried about cookies as much as some of the other things they want me to allow. I just don't know what they are. Now firefox (which I use for some sites)says it won't accept them even when I click on allow and OK. It tells me they will not accept it.It says an attempt to save settings has failed... Thank you..Sherry
When exactly do you see the warnings about apmebf.com? Is it when you browse certain sites or all of the time? Forgot to mention that I accept all cookies when I browse, no cookie blocker installed, and I have never had any cookie-related problems.
Just certain times, not all the time. Also are you suppose to accept private header information from sites? ....I goof my computer up by not knowing what I can safely accept.. I think that is why I can't download all programs..But I am not sure if that is the reason.. Thank you, Sherry
brink2012...there are so many of them...I only go on gardening websites and bird areas and I get them so often...I would think peoples computers would be packed with them. I have nothing to hide so if it really doesn't harm anything I will start accepting more than I have been...thank you, Sherry8 what scared me when it would say persistent cookies from so and so....and it would be so nice if you could understand those weird names they have..
Yes there will always be a lot of cookies, one per each website that you visit. They load up very quickly. If you are using internet explorer you can go to Tools> Internet Options and delete all of the cookies (although this is not necessary!). The names look weird, but most of them will be OK. If you believe that you have a virus you can always just use my favorite removal program.. http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Kills everything in 1 swoop, try it - its amazing!
brink2012....another question for you...if it is alright to accept the cookies how about when it says to accept private header information? I don't even understand what that is about...but it keeps asking me if I want to accept and I am not sure if I should accept it or not...as long as I have your attention, how about popups? I just clicked on the link you gave above and it ask me (MY secuarity CA personal firewall) if I would accept the popup from www.malwarebytes.org Thank you, Sherry
First thing that you did wrong: CA Security. This program is bad and restricts access from good things. I recommend grabbing a free copy of Malwarebytes.. and a free copy of AVG for an anti virus. Uninstall that CA Security stuff. As far as popups.. some popups are advertisers and some are legitimate.. just really depends on what website you are on -- malwarebytes is 100% legit, I use this program everyday in my field of work. I would say accept all cookies unless you are browsing a website that doesnt look secure, or that says you're going to win a million dollars.
