how do you guys and gals keep those clog thingies on, with no back? i've tried them and they keep slipping off???! i have 2 pairs of LL Bean boots (going on 7 years!), one tall top and one short top, and i probably go through at least 2 pairs of sneakers and 2 pairs of sandals/tongs a season. i like the looks of those rounded-toed shoes sjoerd. all i can find over here are pointed toes which pinch. barefeet are soo much better, as stated above!
That's a great assortment of garden footwear. I wear old tenishoes, or my old Birkenstock clogs. My hubby paid a fortune for them about 10 years ago, and except for replacing the sole incert they are still going strong. For those brave souls who go out barefoot to garden, my hat is off to you. I'm too afraid of stepping on a bee or wasp, or perhaps an old nail or broken glass. I'd love to read about what people find in there digging. I once found a partial jaw bone of what I think was a opossum or a cat, complete with teeth. Glad I was not barefoot that day!
Hiyah Bunkie, All those shoes do have backs (except for the crocsw with the flower--and it has a strap). They look like they don't have any backs because of the camera angle. I would be interested to hear what all other folks find as well, 4-G.
I get very excited when I find something while digging in my yard because since I moved to this yard when I was a baby (48 years ago), most anything I find probably came from inside my house or from my parents or us kids. So it feels like a strong connection to my own past. I have found.... bent forks and spoons that my brother and I "stole" from the kitchen to dig with (big trouble).... small toys, brother's plastic army men, wheels from cars, marbles, broken hair barettes... once a whole collection of rusty nuts and bolts as if my dad had dropped a bagful... Last summer I found two of the old fashioned Coke bottles.... I keep hoping I'll find that giant diamond that someone lost (kidding there!!). Fun question, Cuatrogatos. How about others?
Well in the garden I wear tennis shoes maybe sometimes sandles. I'm not for going barefoot, we always find glass. We too have an old dump site about 1/4 mile down from us, or we have the red ants that like to bite. The only thing we ever found was some old animal bones that an old, old tree root grew into.
I do step on things but my feet are very tough.Parts of my yard has grass burrs so I put shoes on when going there most of the time.
I am a barefoot gardener- in my own gardens, that is. I like the feel of the sun warmed soil, can tolerate stones and nothing is better than splashing in rainy day puddles. I guess I haven't grown up yet. In gardens other than my own, I wear a pair of ratty tennis shoes or if it is rainy- flip flop sandals.
Now if I wouldn't of had so many grass snakes and pine snakes at our last home in the country, I might be barefoot...but to this day even though I haven't had a snake in this yard, I am careful to wear shoes and look where I am walking.. One day I had seven snakes close by and all I said to my husband is that I am going inside the house...that was a bad day for me...and it is so nice not to have them anymore. Our neighbors would hear me scream and know that I had found a snake while gardening...LOL :-D
lol! sherry8, i'm a screamer too when it comes to snakes! luckily, here we have mainly the garter snake who's green with yellow stripes. they always are around our water, in the polebeans laying in the sun, and in the straw bales i use for compost. i have to keep reminding myself how good they are for the gardens!
