This little chap came to call at my bird feeder today. It's the first time I've seen a Great Spotted Woodpecker in my garden so I'm chuffed to bits!!! :D

I would be pleased too. I don't encourage birds since I have 20 plus kitties. I would hate to see one get killed by the vicious little beasts.

We lived at a lower altitude for a number of years. We had Gila Woodpeckers. Beautiful birds! Dooley

I remember something about that Gila Woodpecker Dooley was talking about. We had one that wasn't too smart. He used to hang on the side of the house and hammer on the siding. The house was aluminum sided. Not too smart but noisy. DR

Beautiful woodpecker. Our Downy and Red-bellied woodpeckers are bringing their "wee ones" to the feeder with them now. Curious to know what the temperature is like where you are.

Great shot - I would have just been sitting there ooohing over him and probably wouldn't have thought to grab the camera until he was gone. I love woodpeckers, we have one pair of them nesting someplace in our trees this year.

And yes, the one that was pecking at the aluminum! :D

    Hi Bluebells!!! :-D
It's the first time I've ever seen one around here. I did see Green Woodpeckers in Richmond Park, London a couple of times but it's a MUCH bigger thrill to have this one visit my garden. :D
