I always enjoy seeing those beautiful north american specimens. They are really pretty. When will they begin their migration southwards into Mexico? I can see that it was quite windy the day you took the pictures, but you got some good shots in spite of it.
Your butterflies are beautiful Glendann, I love the patterns on their wings and the colours you have in them.
The wind didn't stop me appreciating your lovely butterflies Glenda. :-D Sadly, we won't see any more here until next year now.
Beautiful photos Glenda, I have seen a few Monarchs flitting thru here in the last 2+ months but none while I had the camera Sjoerd, the Monarchs started their migration back in August coming down from the north and north east, we will probably be seeing a few more for the next month as the last of them fly by.
Ok Toni...I was just wondering. I had in my mind that they were down in Michoacan already...but I guess that they trickle in for 3-4 months or so. Anyway, thanks.
They do seem to trickle down, or up depending on the season, over time but some of the ones still on the migration trail now are the children or grandchildren of the ones that left the northern areas back in Aug/Sept. Early spring and this time in the fall I still find their caterpillars munching away on host plants, then the pupate and take off. They don't spend a whole lot of time here, most are just flying thru on their way to somewhere else.
Thank you all for the great compliments.I don't mind at all cuatro.I love the Monarch's.I didn't see many last year but I've seen so many around the Zinnia's here this year and tried to get photos but couldn't.It took high wind to slow them down.Usually by the first frost they are all gone.The wind is still high and lots of Monarchs are still here too today.
Glanda, those are pretty pictures, especially #1. It looks like a postcard. I too, have seen several Monarchs recently and they were gorgeous.
I miss those beauties in my garden...and my gardens are so brown and soggy right now. I am waiting for nice weather so I can get into it and clean it up a bit before the snow flys. Nice weather now meaning a little sun and into the 40's. Great pictures....I waited all summer to get some pictures of them on my zinnias but I never noticed any on them.
