Well, it was actually the side of a wooded mountain, a little difficult at times as the path was a little rocky in parts. Had a good day though, took lots of pics. Here is a strange lichen, the Devils matchstick.

The lichen does resemble matchsticks doesn't it? Do you know how it got the name of Devils Matchstick though? Intriguing!!

Cool lichen! :D That plant group amazes me, and I try to remember to admire them in passing.

Kildale, you always find the most unusual things for us to look at. No exception here. Is this lichen sticky (like sticks) or soft?

That's really interesting. You can get why they would not only call it a matchstick but the Devil's Matchstick because its kind of creepy looking.

Mother Nature can be pretty amazing at times...wonderful picture! I'm waiting patiently for the wild mushrooms here to sprout, and with our unusually warm spring I think they'll be early this year.

It is a great group to get involved with. I have over 60 different images of lichens. Thank you all for the messages.

I love looking at mosses, lichens and algaes. You pass them by, but when you get up close and personal, they are so amazing - such perfect little structures. I love the colour, and the little black 'match heads'. Fab up close shot.
