Amazing plants I'm not requesting seeds but I was wondering if you could tell me how to harvest them?? I am relatively new to perrenial and biennial gardening, but recently my husband and I just purchased a new home. This spring we found all sorts of different plants growing randomly in the yard - no garden, no rhyme or reason to them, just randomly scattered about. I moved some of these into a garden in an attempt to make something nice out of the mess we had going on. One of the plants I found was a hollyhock and though people warned me not to move it I did and just hoped for the best, this afternoon the 1st bud on it opened and its a black one!! My mother in law asked me for some seeds when they are ready but I haven't the foggiest about when they are ready or how you harvest them...please help???? Thanks Much
After the flowers are done blooming, they'll create a seedhead, every single one of them! So you get lots of seed. You can leave them be, and they should self-seed, or you can collect the seed after the seed heads start to brown, and the seed heads pop right off easily when ready. Sow the seed in the fall if you want it to bloom the next year. The seeds often stick together like a stack of pennies, just break them apart. I have a lily I'm trying to figure out, its got buds but is teasing me because it hasn't bloomed yet...again its another straggler that is just kinda growing out in the middle of a field all on its lonesome not even in a clump just a loner LOL It does have seeds that grow just inside where the leaves grow so as they fall off I been collecting them as well for experiments in my relocation of all these scattered flowers.
