My father said he had a leak in his roof and asked me to help with the repair. My father is getting up there in years and the roof is too. So I get the ladder out (wasp in the rungs) got rid of them with Pinesol. I go up to inspect where the leak is and there were walnut shells every where. Then I find it, a 6" hole chewed out by a squirrel. yes I did say 6" around with chew marks on the edges. If I hadn't have seen the nut shells I would have thought a beaver was making a den. My father had made the mistake of planting 4 Walnut trees around his house. It's a buffet with his attic for an apartment. Those little zippy grey squirrels have chewed holes before, but never this large. I can't say it's funny that he had a leak, but I had to laugh when I saw the mess. I should have taken a picture but it just slipped my mind. If it happens again I'll get a photo. We baited the attic(which I didn't like doing)but this little guy needs to go by by. Anyone else ever have this happen?

I know raccoons can be very destructive. I've removed all but the one nut tree's next to the house. 2 of which were 35-40 feet tall with buckets of nuts a season each. It's a squirrel Paradise over there. I don't have any issues with the big red squirrel's, Fox squirrels I believe is there name. They are very friendly and cause no harm. It's the small grey ones. I know there's more in the area. My father has 3 more Walnut trees, 4 Black walnut, 2 Hazel nut's, 5 Apple, and 1 Pear tree. He may as well hold up a sign "Unlimited buffet and free lodging-Just chew your way in".

Our church used to have problems with squirrels in the attic which actually a drop ceiling. They would make new holes and the men would fix them. One time a squirrel chewed a hole in the ceiling behind the organ, and one fell down into the church. I had a time getting him caught so I could put him out. I finally got him into a cardboard box with nuts in it, and put him outdoors. I let him keep the nuts. There was always old leaves, nuts and sticks up there and I could hear them scampering around too. Our church finally got a new roof, and the eaves repaired --with metal I think-- and so far no more squirrels in the ceiling.
