Well I wouldn't have thought to put old hiking shoes to use like that in the garden!! What a marvellous idea.

I save all of our old work boots for this, and we do accumulate a lot of them with 4 adult men in the house and they all do construction work on occasion.

Best use of a boot I have seen in a long long time.

I tried this idea once using my husband's sneakers. Only problem was I used what I thought were his old sneakers only to find out they were his good sneakers. He reminds me of my error every now and then.

I had talked with someone years ago and asked before he through out his shoes, to let me know so I could do the same thing. I was looking for a size 13 or bigger. I never did hear from him so I think he didn't understand. I was looking or a sturdy hiking shoe.

I had to retire my all-time favorite hiking shoes last summer... I wish I had thought of this.... Very clever.

I hate to be non-supportive in this, but it's bad enough to see my husband's boots in the mud room, I'm not sure I want to see them in my garden.

It does go to show, however, that functionality can be found in so many different things if eyes are opened. While I may not personally like the boot idea, it did get me to thinking...

I think I may have to agree with Libby a bit on this one.
Dirty, wet old shoe... on purpose?
Guess whoever donated the shoe doesn't have stinky feet like my hubby! ;)

I've been on the lookout for old work boots to plant in or a combination of work boots, sneakers and cowboy boots. I was thinking some lining part of a garden path, planted with something tall and narrow.
Once the shoe sits in the sun for a while any fragrance is long gone.
