Patio landscape 5-21-2011 ( photo / image / picture from RJ's Garden ) I like to keep my landscape simple. It's easy to manage and looks very clean. However on the right side under the Cistena, It looks a bit bare. I thought about Hosta or Something down that line. If anyone has a good suggestion I'd be happy to listen. :?:
I think I like your Hosta idea. There are so many different Hostas to choose from, and it really becomes addictive when you start planting them. They also are so easy to care for and would go well with your simple clean tastes! Happy gardening!
I agree, hosta would look nice. I would go with either a variegated variety like 'Patriot' or 'Loyalist' or a chartreuse or lime green variegated one for great contrast with the maroon leaves of the bush. Good luck.
If you want a bit more variety, you could mix in some ferns with your hostas. I think the upright fronds would look good with the shrub, and with the hostas, and give you one more "layer". Ferns come in a variety of shades of green, and would compliment the variegated hostas.
I agree with hostas in a varity. Under a large tree in my sisters back yard I planted 5 differnt kinds of hostas
Hi RJ and welcome to GS. I agree with Hosta also. I have a really neat variety named, Sub & Substance. It has a med. green leave color with splotches of very dark green to maroon all over the leaves. I think I have a picture of it on my various pic's page if you want to check it out. Also Bug Bane would be great on the shader side. It has some wonderful foliage and has tall arching flowers later in the summer that smell wonderful. I also have pic's of it. But it is not blooming yet. Happy plant picking.
Thanks to all for the ideas. I've yet to select a planting arrangment. Since it's going to be in the upper 90's here for a week, I'm waiting for a break in the heat.
