What are some of the "fall" plants that you will be or have already planted? Anything unusual? I have some squashes that I will be planting soon. How do you determine what you will be planting?
Spoiler Bulbs, rhizomes, and tuberous roots are all on my fall planting schedule. The reminders are usually trips to the nursery where the displays give me hints as to what needs to be planted. I also keep a logbook and put in reminders as to what to do when. Jerry
Usually at this time of year I'd cut back and discard old plants that are past their best. In their place I would be planting up others that are beneficial to the birds, bees and butterflies. However, for a change I won't be planting anything this autumn. The reason for this is that we're clearing up the back garden and will be making some of it over to more fruit and vegetable production next year.
This year I am, mostly, just cleaning up, this was the biggest gardening area we have had so far, so there is a lot of cleaning up to do and then we have a few trees to cut down and get out of the front lawn. I do have a tray of lettuce to get planted in the high tunnel for late fall-mid winter harvest, though, and the left over flower bulbs that I was giving away at my last farmers market need to be planted.
