While my house renovation project is ongoing I had a few challenging times. I was asked to make a cake for a 21st birthday.
I was rather proud of my work and jsut have to share it with you all:

Ian turned 21 and wanted a cake that tells people what he likes and the occasion - needless to say - he is nuts about baseball.

I also had to make smaller cakes for the guests at the party - hence the cupcake sized fancy cakes.

Palm, That is a really clever cake! Nice job! And the cupcakes, well my mouth is watering... what is on the top of them? Candies, fruit? looks so good!
I have been commissioned to bake my Grandson's cake this weekend for his 6th Bday party. Probably won't be quite as cute as these.

    Oooooh, delicious cakes fancy cakes.

Bet Ian was really pleased with his birthday cake. Where did you find the little discs with the bat and ball on them? Or did you make those? Those are really cool.

Just a hint, but when you have a major home renovation project going on, you aren't supposed to turn out cakes that look that fabulous! Gee, if we are painting a room we send out for pizza (a hand that wields a paint brush doesn't wield a spatula).
I love your cakes, and really admire anyone who can bake such lovely, decorative and good-tasting cakes under less than perfect conditions. Ian is lucky (and aren't you glad he isn't nuts about polo!).

However did you find time with the renovations going on to make those delicious looking cakes? I think you must have a second pair of hands stashed away to achieve so much. I'm impressed and I'm sure Ian made short work of both big cake and the little ones. Well done. :smt041 :smt041

    Hiyah Palmpie--

    Wat delicious and imaginative food.
I'll bet that Ian was well chuffed with that cake.
I think that I could have finished-off that whole display of little cakes. They looked enviteing.
I was pretty excited about that game when I was small as well.

Our national team beat Cuba this year to win the world Championship Cup, and we were very happy for our team.
We had never won that championship before.
Your food looks a great success---well done. :)

Hi there you all - many thanks for the kind words. It sure was a challenge.
Marlin gardener - you know - quite often I go the route of quick convenient food, but Ian insisted tht he wanted a cake from me.. Me I would prefer a loaf of bread, freshly baked any time though (still envious of your beautiful bread..)

Eileen - thanks, help came in the shape of my daughter mixing the icing and making the chocolate caramel to cover the cake - all I basically did was the baking and the actual decorating ;)

Hi Toni - The little discs were easy to 'make', (The little cake shop nearby had loads of these specialty sugar art) all I bought extra was rice paper and with food coloring I copied the bat and ball just to match the chocolate. As for the mitt - that took quite some time.. (A whole weekend for that detail)

Hello Kay - thanks for the kind words. I used canned fruits - they last longer - cupcakes are always winners . You cannot go wrong - any creation/decoration will work. I also took years before I could make good looking cakes - something like 18 years.. However the main idea always shone through. I remember Ian wanted a train cake when he was 6. The train looked very unballanced and unproportioned... but at least it resembled a train.

Hello Sjoerd - COngrats to your national team. Personally I would have prefered a summer theme and fresh strawberries on the cake.. preferably strawberries from your lottie.. :stew1:
