I'm so happy!!! My daughter sent me a photo text today and it was of her tiny garden in her dorm room at Med School...she has green onions, lentils, garlic and herbs...they are in coffee tins, Lean Cuisine Containers and the herbs will go in the Spinach container!!! You have to understand.. Growing up, she and her brother would always tease me about the weird containers that I brought home to stick a plant in or the unusual methods I used to grown those plants. They always teased me 'cuz I would be outside from sun up to sun down...never thought that SHEEE would be the one to catch the bug!!!! She is very prim and proper...LOL.. She has been a vegetarian for 6 years, hence the lentils, which she loves. But for her to grow them in her dorm room, I'm speechless and even more proud of her. Stress runs high in Med School and she knows this will de-stress her...she has even purchased some of the materials for a terarium...How 'Bout That!!!
Good for her. When you don't have space for an outside garden you use whatever space you can find inside. Using the containers you get for free are much better than buying "fancy" pots, I think. Growing your own food is a good thing and two of three of my boys have a garden. One only has a patio but it's full of plants. dooley
It is fantastic to see that members of the younger generation carry on, maintain or improve on the experiences of an older generation. Three cheers for your daughter!!! Jerry
Yes, its great!!! She caught me totally by surprise!!! I'm growing tomatoes and peppers in her room!!!
When I was in college, the only thing kids tried to grow was... ummm.... well... that other stuff! You must be proud to know that she was actually paying attention and learning from you.
There is nothing like a good gene pool and strong antecedents to improve the younger generation. Obviously, your daughter is the recipient of both. You are right to be proud of her. Perhaps she'll come home on break and help you plant!
LOL Cheryl...that was true!!! Thank you Marlingardener: When she comes home this Friday she won't be surprised..already told her that her room is a grow room...she started laughing. I have containers to plant so she may just help out...
Delighted to read about your daughter getting the bug,..you must be rubbing your hands with glee,..so few of the younger generation are interested in gardening,..well done,..its in the blood.
It's nice to know not everything you said/did all those years went in one ear and out the other. Plus now you know what ti give her on gift occasions.....seeds!
That is great news. It is sad when you go on flower walks and all people 50 and older. But then go to county Fair. And see the 4-H teens. All proud of their garden pictures. I just HAPPEN to bring pictures to share with them.
Congrats! Not only on having a daughter that caught the gardening bug, but having a daughter in med school! You must be so proud!
Thanks Phiip I am rubbing my hands and excited to know one of the two were paying attention.... Rockhound yes it is nice to know that everything didn't go in vain...and yes she will get seeds from now on.. Koszta: LOL you just HAPPEN to bring pictures to share...Rightttt!!! LOL Thanks Netty!!! I am truly a proud Momma on both accounts.
