I think I did this a little backwards. I've asked questions and have gotten great feedback. Thanks to all who answered my questions! :-D

I am a recent retiree, 25 years in education. I am now happily retired enjoying traveling, my family, gardening and whatever else I feel like doing at that moment. 8)

I grew up in Central Texas (Bryan/College Station) on my grandparents land where they raised farm animals and of course a large vegetable garden. I grew up helping my grandmother in her garden, she always planted a summer and fall garden which meant we had fresh vegetables all year long, also fresh canned jelly and jams. I can still remember my hands itching from cutting okra, digging potatoes or picking blackberries for a homemade butter filled cobbler and plucking plums and peaches off my grandfathers trees for an evening snack!

I guess I inherited my love of plants from both my late grandmother and my mother. My mother is a great lover of all things that bloom. She plants flowers now from her motorized wheelchair and it gives her such pleasure. I never understood that feeling until now.

My sister-in-law, Cheryl, a very accomplished gardener herself, introduced me to this site. It's filled with wonderful information and awesome, awesome gardens. I hope to be sharing my garden pictures soon. Until then, Ciao

Hi and welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. You seem to be settling right in here, that's always nice to see.

I'm a born and raised Texan too. Born in Dallas, grew up in Dallas and Sherman. We are becoming an endangered species lately though.

Thanks everyone! I'll run into lots of things with this gardening business that I know nothing about. I'm glad I have people to come to with suggestions (many of which I'm already using). Thanks again everyone!

Gsdurth I send you a big welcome from Wisconsin. It's great to have grown up in a family that loves flowers and gardening. Now you found an online family that loves the same. My Step-daughter lives in Austin and she said that the wildflowers where so beautiful this year. Looking forward to seeing pic's of your garden or whatever. Have a super day. :stew1:
