I bought a 6 pk of gorgeous zinnias, and in a day or two they have seemingly "kicked the bucket". They are all wilty and the flowers are flopped over and dead looking. They look as if they've seen a ghost They have been getting water, either from me or rain...daily. They are in the sun. They aren't in the ground yet though. I have had them maybe a week. I put some miracle gro on them last night. How can they go from gorgeous to horrible in a couple days? WHat can i do to bring them back (aside from getting them in the ground obviously)! I pulled some of the dead flowers off, but i'm afraid i did it wrong. Do you just snap the dead flower off with your hands???? I don't want a bunch of stems in the garden . The greenhouse i got them at is closed for the season  Please Help!!!!!!!!!!! Sad in Indiana
Hi there Cheryllynn, Hope I can help a little here. Firstly, as far as I remember, zinnias don't like to be over watered as they prefer damp but not wet conditions. Here are some web sites that may be of some help to you: www.inthepottingshed.co.uk/zinnia.html www.gardenersnet.com/flower/zinnia.htm and www.organicgardentips.com/how_to_grow_zinnias.html Let me know how you get on won't you? Hope you manage to save them.
I don't think those really apply to this situation, unfortunately. Shall i pluck off the dead flowers or leave them be? Just the actual flower or some stem? :?: :?: :?: Thanks!!!!
I think, if it was me, I'd pluck off the heads down to just above the nearest foliage. Really hope they survive and sorry the sites were of no help.
WoW, I just noticed you live in scotland. That is so awesome, lucky you! I hope to make it there someday. I bet it is simply gorgeous, and i love bagpipes too . I had an great uncle many years ago and he was from scotland, love that accent! ( I can still remember it, some 25 or so years later!!!)
Hi Cheryllynn, How are the zinnias today?Hhopefully perking up a bit. Still keeping my fingers crossed for you and hoping that you don't lose them all. I come from a small conservation village in Scotland (about 20 miles from the capital, Edinburgh) where we live in a 17th century cottage. If I manage to find any time over the week-end I'll take a few piccies and let you see them. Don't hold your breath though as the sun has actually come out so I'm off to the garden. Have a great week-end. Bye for now.
2 of the pots of zinnias look like they may make it. The other ones i took of the dead flowers and dried up leaves and there is nothing more than stems We shall see I guess!
