    Hello all,

I am new to this forum but I hope you can help me furnishing my new room.

I need some suggestions for the new area in the photo. What type of lighting should I use and how can I furnish the area, what do you think?

I am thinking of putting a white antique work table on one side and hanging a tv on the other wall. Any other ideas?

For the lighting, I think of hanging soft purple spots on the ceiling but I am not sure.

I am not good at designing so I need your help.

    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: That blue area over the photo comes from the camera flash.

What is the room going to be used for....bedroom, dining room, livingroom, study? Knowing the measurements will help too.

Haven't decided on that yet. It may be a study room with a desk, a tv etc.

Hmm since the room is already white (or close to white) I don't know if I would go with a white desk. Also I think I would either put a tv and loveseat or chairs or a desk and/or bookcases. But thats just me. Very cool stone wall!

Depends on your style, I think a ceiling pendant that hangs lower down into the room will provide you the light needed for a desk.

I love the stacked stone wall. I would recommend going richer for your desk materials. Perhaps a warm wood?

If you opt for a desk, a cherry table that exudes a modern look will fit on that room and I think, it complements well with the stacked marble wall. The lighting should be like a Tiffany type that belongs to a chandelier family.

I would love to help, but I need measurements of the room. It is hard to say what will fit with good traffic flow otherwise.

Honestly, I think the room is small enough to put a desk or a study table. I think that it will be better if you make the as an entertainment room, putting on a T.V and a home theater seems good enough, plus a cozy chair you and your family.

yes, that is definitelly not enough space for intertainment area and study. I would use this room as a study. It is posible to choose a midium size desk and a cozy chair to create a work area, something in industrial style probably or very simple. When choosing furnitue, I would recommand you to check reviews and complaints.

    Hi Oakin,

I guess I would start with what my needs (desires, wishes) were. Do you need a study/work area? A TV room? An 'away room' for yoga-meditation-music? A reading room? A teen crash area? You mentioned a work desk & a TV so I am guessing you are envisioning an area to do some work, watch some TV perhaps? Do you already have any of those places in your house already? If so, I would not duplicate function. I would try to think about what kind of area my house does not have already & what I (the family) could use.

My other thought is this: The room does not appear to have a window. You could either go in the direction of making it a warm cave kind of thing, putting comfy chair/s, etc there, maybe even add a fireplace on the stone wall (is it a basement? does it feel damp there?). Or you could go in the direction of opening it up by adding lights/mirrors/a large picture of an outdoor scene. I will include a photo of what I mean by the picture. Please excuse the settee, it probably is not your taste, and the picture is too high on the wall, in my opinion. It should be the height of a natural window.

    Hope this helps.

    Oakin,

I have had another thought. I am guessing that the metal banister belongs to a set a stairs, so the approach to this room is from above, going down. I like the stone wall, but to me it appears rather imposing, too tall and overwhelming for the space. (It is possible it is just the angle of the photo.) I would try to humanize that wall a bit so it does not feel like it will topple down on top of you. Maybe add a couple of wood shelves with interesting sculptures on them....
