I hope these pictures come up properly...
This is my first project for the new house, to go in the foyer.
I got this mirror, my first instinct was to paint it white, but now I am thinking of painting it a dark mahogany color, and getting a table similar to this one, and putting the mirror above it in the front hall. What do you think?

I always say that you should go with what you like and not what other people like, since it's you who live there.

I'm partial to dark-coloured furniture against pale walls as long as the furniture isn't too heavy. If you can get a table like the one you're showing I'd say your idea's excellent according to my own taste. :D I think it gives a strict, tidy look. If it gets too strickt you can always soften it by using colours on and around it.

I agree - whatever you like then go ahead. If the dark wood doesn't work out for you then it's a fairly easy job to change it. Have fun!!

I think the shaker simple style of the console and the country mirror with carving fight with one another. I realize you are just showing this mirror as an example, but I thought I might point that out.

Whatever color or stain you pick for the mirror is personal preference, but I would recommend not selecting a finish that is close to the console. Otherwise you will look like you tried to match and missed.

I am an interior designer by the way in Oregon;)
