I am germinating some trinidad scorpion butch t pepper seeds and im currious if anyone has germinated superhots before. Im curious about how long it should take and if its best to germinate in a tupperware or in dirt with plastic on top. I do have t hem on a heat mat so they have the humidity they need.

I grow lots of peppers, I don't see a real difference between hots and sweets in respect for heat in germinating. I had lots of trouble germinating several varieties this year. I a saw a huge span of germination rate in the same batch of seeds. GRRR! makes it hard to have even growth in a flat, but The most important need is heat and keep them covered with either plastic or a dome cover to retain humidity. Otherwise the seed "shells" tend to stick to the cotyledons as they germinate and are too dry and hard to slip off leaving "helmet heads" in the germination chamber eventually dying if they aren't shed. So, keep them warm and humid as they germinate. It can take a week or a month for some to emerge.

Just want to add, too: Don't place the seeds in direct sunshine to keep them warm. Once they are covered with plastic the sun will over heat the container and cook them. You must keep them covered to help them emerged from the seed stage. Indirect sun or in a warm room is helpful and appropriate to keep the air warm, but the soil must be warm so keep them on the heat mat.

Honestly I dont intend to eat this pepper but make hot sauce and watch others brave enough to try to eat it. I tried the dirt method and its been over a week with no results. Last night i used a tupperware and paper towels and i see roots forming less than a day later. I'm excited!
