Hello! Recently I started a cooking page on Facebook. Now I shop better. I eat better. I even lost 20 pounds…B) My intention was to grow a few herbs, but I went crazy at Lowes…hahaha Now I’m farming on my deck…lol I’m reading everything I can. The art of watering is among many challenges right now. I read conflicting information online. Everything seems to be growing well except my sweet Peppers. It’s been overcast and wet a few days here. Now I’m seeing what looks like a fungus on the stems. Otherwise the plants look healthy. I’m reading now that I should not have used Miracle Grow…oops! I also might have to spread the plants out more. Meanwhile, I’m going to keep the plants in direct sun all day to see if that helps. Still investigating.

Welcome to Garden Stew! :-D Yeah, Miracle Gro is no win for peppers. I grow huge and healthy hot and sweet pepper plants and I only plant them in dirt mixed with some sand. I was even picking peppers in January cuz I moved some of the plants into the house and put them in a window.

Oh! that's funny....Have you ever tried to pickle bell peppers?

earthtao, I can only warn you of one thing. Don't water in late morning so the leaves don't have time to dry off. If you do, don't get the leaves wet or they will burn in the strong summer sun. If you do, it will still produce fruit but just look horrible. That seems to be as important as the fruit to most of us. :D

Earthtao, welcome to the stew.. Keep your enthusiasm up, don't let a few failures (if you have any) discourage you..

Hi and Welcome. I second Hanks advice. Keep on gardening and don't let a few setbacks discourage you. You can try a teaspoon of baking soda and a teaspoon of dishsoap in a quart of water to spray on the damaged stem to see if that helps. Otherwise try to keep the foliage and stem dry. Pick off the leaves around the spot to get air and sunshine to the spot.

Earthtao, I also welcome you to the Stew from a Stewbie in Wisconsin. I hear you when about having problems growing peppers. Glad you found this friendly online community from all over the world. :stew1:
