There are videos on youtube that look pretty simple but is there anything I should look out for when purchasing or using.

Oh wonderful, yet another kitchen gadget I can't live without! Pretty soon we are going to have to build an annex to the kitchen just to store all my "stuff".
John and/or Eileen, do you have recipes to share? If I'm getting a pannini maker I ought to know what to do with it!

We use toasted sandwich makers regularly, does that count? Your posted photo is mouth-watering John. You caught me off-guard at a hungry period!

Jane you can slap almost anything on a Panini. I love tuna fish with melted cheese. Ian loves ham, cheese and pickle. One of my sons prefers coronation chicken when he comes here, the other roasted veggies and my daughter baked beans and cheese.
Just go with whatever takes your fancy. :-D

Do a image search on "Panini recipes". It looks like you can use almost anything including the bread.

I don't think I would turn down a sandwich from either one.

We had a snackster (that toasted sandwich) and we have a panini press as does uncle

I love them! Lol but the panini uncle has has 2 tops (griddle and panini) and it opens relatively flat I'd say look like that moms is more expensive (william Sonoma) but can't pull the plates off --it can be a pain to wash

You can use whatever on it

I just use a couple of iron skillets, small and large since I already have those. Or George Forman grill.

Aaaah!! we have a GF grill but its the small one. You can only do one sandwich at a time. I wonder what DW is going to eat? :D

Our waffle maker hinges like a door and you couldn't put a very thick sandwich in it. :'(

I think it is one of those things that is going to collect dust unless you have a serious Panini craving. For example, I use my Panini maker all the time, but my waffle iron is lucky if it comes out of the closet twice a year. People may tell you that other instruments can do the same thing, but I have yet to regret my purchase.

Try making a pizza Panini. Or a fruit pie Panini. Just sprinkle on a little powdered sugar after cooking. They are so good.
