Most of these herbs I have grown over the winter by seed except for maybe 4 of the ones on the floor shown. I have sage, parsley, rosemary, cinnamon basil, purple basil, chives, garlic chives, spearmint, anise(licorice). I have bought apple mint, pineapple mint, orange mint, chocolate mint. Outdoors in my herb garden I have peppermint, chives, lemon balm, 1 plant of sage. I'm really liking Herbs and learning more about them.

I cut basil, oregano and leaf celery this morning. And I don't want to wash my hands. Smells so good.

That is an impressive list of herbs you have! I actually have not heard of some of these.

How well does your peppermint grow, I've been considering growing my own since I love peppermint tea

I'm trying to start herbs too.
I have a few questions for you.
Did you plant directly into those pots?
Did you use seed starting soil or regular potting soil?
    How many seeds per pot?

My Sage and Basil did well, but my Oregano, Chamomile, and Rosemary don't want to budge. They are small sprouts and have stayed that small for two months. I can only see three little leaves of my Oregano poking above the soil and that is it. It won't grow any more than that. I would love for my herbs to look like yours!

Beeker, are they still in the small starter pots? You might need to repot them into larger ones, especially the Rosemary. Seedlings work on growing strong roots before doing much above ground level, after two months in small pots they might have cramped roots.

I buy rosemary is small pots and plant them directly into the ground. I have three growing right now and one may just take over the whole back yard. I haven't cut it back except for when I want to use some. Here in Texas you don't have to take it in or worry about it in winter. I don't even water it much. It's pretty neglected and it still grows.

Beeker:I hardly ever start my seeds right into soil. I like to start my seeds a little differant-I startthem in coffee filters.
once they have started I plant them into regular potting soil. and how many is always different depending on the plant I'm working with. I could show my form of starting seeds in these coffee filters thru another forum if u'd like. I have found this system is what works for me.

AvaRose: I had peppermint in the ground until last year I repotted most of it because it just becomes evasive (sp?).

Dooley: rosemary will stay in pots and brought in the house this winter. It is an annual here. I'm in Michigan and any annual herbs will come in the house and I will watch over them during the winter.
Thanks everyone for your comments-I just love herbs.

Petunia--I like your herbs. Do you cook with them?

Every Father's Day, our kids fill out our herb garden with any missing plants. This year they'll probably be getting several rosemary's. My husband has been snipping the one we have to a fare-thee-well!

Toni, thank you. Yes, they are still in the starter "pots". I use seed starting soil in paper egg cartons to start my seeds so that the roots can grow right through them. When I plant them, I just tear the cartons a little bit and take off the excess paper. Thank you for the info. I'll plant them, or at least put them in larger pots.

Petunia, I would love to see your method. It is obviously quite successful. Thank you. :smt001

A woman after my own heart with all those herbs and starts and in the house! I never heard of most of those basils, mostly because I don't do basil. Maybe I would like to try growing some, but it tastes funky in the food. Rosemary tastes funny in the food too, but thought I might try using some in soaps. I want to try making some herbal soaps this year.

This year my herbs are: peppermint, onion chives, curly leaved parsley, two kinds of thyme, two kinds of sage [not sure flower sage counts, but whatever], oregano, rosemary, comfrey ...I thought I had a longer list, but my mind went blank. Does bee balm/bergamot count as a herb? Or the heal-all? I have weeds galore, and I bet most of them count as herbs. I had had lavender, but it died off last year. A friend gave me more, but I seem to have killed that too. And no one here had any for sale this year.
