But first a little history. In 2001 I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I had a quadruple, beating heart bypass. The bypass really helped and other than also having a pacemaker/defibrilator put in a year later I have been maintenance free. I have visited my cardiologist every 6 months also.
The end of March, I came down with what I thought was a chest cold and treated it as such for about 2 weeks. The cold didn't get any better, so off to the Dr. I went. Turn out to be a lung infection. Possibly bronchitis. I got to feeling a little better, but still have breathing problems. Had a breathing test done last Mon. and the guy that did the test said that it appeared to be COPD. My Dr. is still waiting for the official diagnosis and recpmendations for treatment to get it started.
Mid-March I turned 71 so have slowed down a lot. But it appears I will have to slow down even more as my breathing gets worse.
If anyone had wondered where I have been, that is the explanaintion.

Wow, Capt. that's a shame but at least now there are medicines available and more than one so your treatment can be made to fit. Good Luck and SLOW DOWN before you really have to.

I hope you don't have to wait long for the diagnosis so the appropriate treatments can get started. Waiting for the diagnosis can be an anxious time so keep in mind that your Stew family is rooting for you.

Sorry to hear of your recent troubles Capt. At least with a diagnosis they can help alleviate the problem with medicine. Take care, we're here to listen.

Do please take care of yourself! COPD isn't nearly as scary as it was a few years ago--treatments have improved vastly. Remember also that your fellow Stewies are rooting for you, a very valued and esteemed member.

Here I was thinking that you were busy outdoors enjoying the spring weather. I'm sad to hear that you have been ill but also heartened that you went to the doctors before your health deteriorated even more. I hope they get your medication sorted out soon and that the COPD will be kept under control so that, even slowing down some, you'll be feeling much improved soon. Take care until then and rest as much as you can.

I know it sounds bad but like I said 35 years ago when I was diagnosed with type I diabetes. If the Lord had to give me something ,,at least he gave me something I can control. Anything else might not have worked out too well. Wishing you the best.

Things may not be as bad as first thought. The Dr.s office called a while ago to set up an appt. to go over the results. The earliest they could get me in, is the 29th. So I asked her if it was as bad as I feared and she said no. That I do need some treatment, but not for an emergency.

Well honey, on the 29th I'll be praying as hard as I can, no matter what else is going on. Treatment is so much better than "emergency". Do take care, and let us know how you are doing.

I'm glad to hear that the Dr. said it wasn't an emergency. I have friends with COPD and, as long as they follow the Doctors orders, and with some moderations and minor changes, live pretty normal lives.

Sorry to hear of your bad news. At least COPD is manageable. While searching around for more info I found this article in a back issue of the Columbus, Ohio Dispatch. Article on COPD
