First ripe tomatoes

    Well, I started these in January. They are in large black pots in the greenhouse these are the first two to get ripe. One is homeslice and the other is Bush Champion. Has anybody had either of them before? Any opinions on taste? 100_1723.JPG

    Haven't tried either of those, so I'd like to hear about the taste test. I am always looking for the 'best' tomato to grow in my gardens. They look delicious!

    Morning Netty. These are both container tomatoes for patios. You could plant them directly in the ground, though I am sure. I grow them to sell them as a potted plant with the tomatoes already getting ready to turn. These have gotten a little too large to move. They are side heavy with all the fruit on them. I did have a "ripe" home slice a week or so ago, but alas it had BER. I still took a bite out of it and I was impressed then. I don't think I have eaten the bush champion, though. I usually sell every one that i plant up. This year I have a few left, I think because of our bizarre Spring weather so I am able to taste them side by side. They are both bush type tomatoes, too.

    I picked my first ripe tom this morning. It was a cherry tom and it tasted wonderful.

    I would like to hear about the taste test also. A few of our tomatoes are getting blossoms now so I'm pretty far behind you.

    Gosh I haven't even been able to plant my tomatoes yet!! The weather is so dreadful here that I doubt they'd survive for long. I'd be interested to know how both varieties taste as I haven't grown these ones before.

    They are a little redder today. Maybe tomorrow. I'll let you know.

    Carolyn I am curious about the taste test too. I like your hand-drawn sign to other household inhabitants! And, what is BER?

    Thank you CM... I didn't think anyone would use them, I tell them all if I have it for something I will label it if it is for something specific, otherwise eat what is there OR go grocery shopping if you don't like what there is in the kitchen. Ber is blossom end rot.
    Eileen, these are in pots in the greenhouse. Outside ones aren't anywhere close to ready. Most were just planted out this past week except for the one row we kept covered for a month and even those tomatoes aren't very big.
