Here's a few shots from around my yard, so far this year... I don't do many flowers, mostly interesting foliage. Hung up this old grill & filled with trimmings: Begonia 'Medora' and 'Castaway.' Begonia 'Withlacoochee' Hoya buds: This spot is shady except for a couple hours in the AM: Dappled light all day, north of a really big hackberry tree: Begonia 'Sinbad' with lavender scallops (Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi,) snake plants (Sansevieria trifasciata,) misc... Various Tradescantias, Begonias, Plectranthus, Callisia.
Very pretty purple...who needs flowers with all the color the foliage provides? It is really looking good
I agree - we don't always need flowers to make a garden look attractive. The leaves of many plants can be just as highly coloured as flowers after all. Thanks for sharing your garden with us all.
I liked all your pics, I think that you have some lovely things there. I especially liked your caladiums.
Thank you! Me too! All of the Caladiums were from 1 big clearance bag I got only a couple weeks ago. It was so full of growth, the plastic was about to pop like a balloon. They were so ready to get in the ground! Best $5 I've spent in a long time.
Purple---I like your gardens. I happen to like foliage contrast too. You have done a good job finding plants with interesting texture & foliage for your garden.
TYVM! I've been collecting them for years. The Caladiums are about the only thing I bought new this year, except a couple Begonias.
I could never grow the caladiums from plants, they always died. Maybe if I started them from bulbs they would be stronger??? I think everything looks great!
I love using colored foliage in place of flowers. Your beds are beautiful and full of lovely colors! Can you keep caladiums in the ground over the winter in your zone? I of course need to dig them out but it's so hard to keep them over winter.
TYVM! Yes, the Caladiums & bananas can stay in the ground. Everything else is stuff I save inside for winter. I used to store Caladiums in basement, dormant, when I lived in OH.
If potted, I just stopped watering the pot. If in ground, I dug them up (leaving most of the dirt on,) and put in open plastic bags after frost killed the leaves. For either way, stored in basement, about 55 deg all winter.
