It's "permanent", but even those always faded on me over time. The fade probably isn't to a true hair color, but I'll take anything I can get. In another month, I'll be able to cut the sides and back short and they should be gray, top will still be darker though. I'll probably look like a mushroom! lol I'm currently at the point I would have colored a week or two ago, so I'm probably 5 weeks in? Having no real part helps hide the roots.

Oh! I've been using dandruff shampoo to try to fade out the dark hair color, it appears to be working. They say you can also add baking soda to the shampoo to help fade the dark color too but I haven't done that.

Is that the tiniest bit of gray I see at the very crown of your head, or just the light shining on your hair? Otherwise, I see no gray whatever!

You are correct...only shows in one place at this point, and a little in the back where it's shorter at the neckline. Next haircut it should show in the back. With just a 1/2" only people taller than me can see it! :)

OK, here's the latest! Got my hair cut shorter than it's been in I can't even remember how long! I don't like it this short, but I also don't like the skunk strip/zebra stripe look that my hair has become, so no matter what I'm not going to like my hair much at the moment. And getting it cut shorter means the color will be out that much faster. I'm getting there!!

I couldn't contort myself enough to get a picture of the back, but the color is all cut out of the back now....I mean, that's the shortest part of my head of hair, so I guess that makes sense! If I can get Paige to take a pic of the back I'll post that too. I am impatient for the rest to follow. It's hard to tell from the pics but it looks very ombre now, and as that is the current trend (though typically it's on longer hair) I could almost be considered hip....if I weren't a 61 year old grandma! :p

OK Ronnie, here's some gray for you. I had a feeling my next haircut would take me down to my natural color in the back. Today was the day, now you can really see it in the back! A few more months and I should be all gray...or is it white? :whistling:

Oh wow That's awesome!! And it's such a pretty gray too!! Mine's all mottled and salt and peppery, just really boring. But yours is that white color that I envy. Is it silver when the light hits it?

Mine's the same way in the back too, in terms of having all the color cut out. I didn't post a pick, but it's exactly the same look as yours.....tips of color there near the crown, but all natural the rest of the way down. It's just that mine isn't sliver like yours, just that bland salt and pepper mixture.

Are you going to grow it longer again once all the color's out? IIRC it was much longer than this when you first started, right?

I'm debating what to do with mine once it's all natural. I typically don't have it anywhere near this short. I guess I'm just going too have to see, once I'm there. I'm already noticing a need to change my makeup slightly to compensate for the difference, and am tending towards wanting bright clothing/scarf colors closer to my face for the same reason. The salt and pepper look is just SO bland, and I can't decide if longer, or quite short, will give it more pop.

Thanks, I'm okay with the color it ended up being. Kind of a stark difference for now though, but part of the growing pains. I have no idea what I'll do after it's all one color. It'll be fall before that happens. I'm hoping the summer sun can fade the dark some more. ugh. It's actually much lighter than it used to be at least.

Well, I've fallen behind on the updating. I think I missed a haircut or two! But anyway here's the latest!

Except for a very small section in the back of my head, just below the crown, (which I can't see so it doesn't bother me ;) ) all the color is out now. I keep trying to get a good shot of my hair from various angles, but so far I just haven't succeeded very well. I'll probably have to engage my daughter Paige to help. But anyway, here's a couple head shots, so you at least have some idea.

I'm officially a salt 'n' peppery old lady now!! :smt082

I like the natural color and the haircut a lot! Did you get new glasses to match your hair? They really look great!

Thanks so much. Personally I think the salt and pepper look on me is a bit boring, so I'm looking for a more edgy style that I can grow this mop into. And also am going to be experimenting on some funky color highlights....temporary at this point....but I've ordered something called hair chalk from Amazon, with a rainbow hued selection of wash out color. This old lady isn't planning to age gracefully OR traditionally! ;)

And yes on the glasses question, I did! I found a fabulous online site for prescription glasses with a wide variety of styles and prices. The pair you see are progressive no line bifocals and were under $50 for frame and lenses!! Of course, you can go more expensive than that depending on the various lens add-ons and frames you choose, but for my purposes of slowly building up a wardrobe of fun glasses to be used as accessories, just the basics work fine for me!
