Picking yellow and green beans today. Have enough cucumbers picked to make green sweet relish and bread and butters. Still watching tomatoes as they slowly ripen. Corn will be awhile yet as it is just beginning to grow silks. Sjored that sweet corn has me drooling that's looking mighty good!

I finally wised up and bought a laundry basket to lug in my harvest each day. Picked beans and tomatoes. 100_6919.JPG

And I use my wine glass hangers for anything but wine glasses. Pulled up some onions today.

Yesterday was another harvest day. Two trugs of bright red toms and almost more runner beans than I could carry--masses of 'em. The harvest apron that Dooley gave me was totally full and pulling me over a bit so that I looked a bit like quasimodo.

Harvested the last of the fennel. That with cheese tonight. Mmmmmmm.

I removed the bee outlets and treated the colonies for varroa mites. The mites began to fall within a couple of hours.

I watered the gardens today. turned on the faucet and let the lines fill and drip for the day. That is it. It is becoming parched here. We haven't had any rain in the past 6 weeks and the weeds are even wilting now. At least it isn't 100. only up in the high 80's and cool at night. Thankful for that.

    Good Grief C--that is alarming!
We were having the same sort of weather up until 3 days ago then it began raining and hasn't stopped since. We have had to work in the garden in-between showers. I hope that the rain will come your way.
How are you doing on the markets this year?

Just potted-up another 7 jars of tomato concentrate...24 in total now. That ought to be enough for the coming year.
    Meanwhile the rain continues.

Carolyn, while I'm happy with our rainfall, I do feel sympathy for those who aren't getting enough.

Sjoerd, you'll be so glad when winter comes.

I did nothing in the garden today. I spent most of it with family females at a park, eating and laughing.

S, It is getting distressing without the rain. Down right depressing, but at least we are healthy. The markets are going well, but I confess I am tired. Kevin has been busy this year with his own job and hasn't had much time away from it and I am doing most of the work by myself and I have a friend who comes and helps when she can and on wednesdays while I am at my day market. That has been a blessing. I have two more Wednesday markets and am done for the year with that one. I may not do it next year it just keeps me too busy since I bake for it, too. I have bread rising as I sit here and type. I hope it gets done soon so I can go to bed, but it is sourdough and takes its good old time rising. I need to go get the other bread and bag it now. I almost forgot about it. oops.
Today I picked more tomatoes. I have 6+ bushels sitting in the shed. I planted cukes in the one greenhouse and I trellised them today. Pruned the tomatoes in the high tunnel so I could get through and pick them. dug a few potatoes for tomorrows market. Had a few customers and watered a few things that I couldn't let wilt too much. And I baked bread. Off to bed here pretty soon.

Nothing in the garden for several days except watering. On day 53 of no rain in my garden but there is an ever so slight chance of some later today.....may only be about 1/2 inch and no that is not better than nothing!! It wets the top of the mulch but evaporates before reaching the soil surface, much less plant roots. But 1/2 inch will re-fill the two almost empty rain barrels our front and the one completely empty barrel out back.

We're watering today and picking peppers, green (so far) toms, beans, radishes, watching the watermelon grow, and weeding!

Carolyn, you wear me out just reading about all your work. Makes my day sound piddling.
I so hope for rain for all who need it. Especially CA and WA state to douse the fires.

    This is today's gardening.
Two bags of beets from our garden, washed, boiled, sliced and frozen. Two bags of beet tops frozen. Most of Spaghetti squash picked and vine taken out. Volunteer tomato plants watered well.

GP's, The thing about my harvest is that I don't do anything more than that with it. I pick it to sell it. Someday I will have enough stashed away to remodel my kitchen. I just pick wash and pack, some for the roadside stand and some to take with me to a market. The market I did today was left somewhat packed but unloaded from the van. Tomorrow I will just pick up the crates and pack them back in my van. THEN, in Sept/Oct I do the "left overs" from my gardens and greenhouses for us.

Carolyn, I stand by my belief that you work like a ? , well awfully hard.

Today was sheer joy. We took up the potato crop. There was me, down on my knees, digging in the potato hills, "Oh,, my, oh WOW, LOOK at this one!"From 10 hills, we got a good 50 pounds. They taste SO good. If I can remember how to download a photo, I will.
