Hello. When I was on my recent trip to Norway, I was out kicking-about in the weeds looking for a place to take some landscape shots and I came upon this discarded relic from the past in the field of a farm. I thought that it looked like an old sled, but I do not know. Perhaps some of you will know. Droooooooooopy..... Come take a look.
Well definitely a seat but what was it attached to, hmm. What was the base like underneath Sjoerd? What would it have lay on?
Well, the base I could not see as this was down in a bit of a deep place, and as you can see it was grown up with weeds and brambles. I could be way wrong with my idea that it was a sled or something that was pulled by man or beast. The `seating` looks like how bikes are fitted for mums with children sitting behind them. I am really fascinated by this relic.
Makes me think of a child's tandem horse cart...maybe pulled by a large dog or miniature horse. It's a shame you couldn't bring that home with you, it would make a great piece of yard art.
Too right Toni. In fact, my bride and I talked about it, but the back of the auto was completely full from side to side and bottom to top. Otherwise I would have seriously considered it. It looked so cool, I may have wanted to set in the living room. No room....ARGGGGGGGGGGGH......
You know those gnomes... they leave things strewn about all the time. THAT IS REALLY ONE OF THEIR SANTA SLEIGHS.. . with the season is about to begin and they were just getting things all sorted out to get their new projects started.
Intriguing! I guess it's fairly small since you considered taking it with you? It looks like an old, homemade toboggan. I can't imagine why anybody would just leave it sitting there, it looks beautiful! Somebody must have spent quite some time making it for their children. Imagine the fun you might have in the snow. Pulling it uphill, sleighing back down, pulling it back up, sleighing back down and repeat until you're exhausted or can't see where you're going because it's dark.
Well....small.....difficult to say, but I would call it smallish. It was longer than I am tall, but not wide or tall. One thing for sure, it was longer than the back of my auto, although if I could have laid it transversely in an empty back end of the auto...it looks like it might have fit. The thing in question is nowhere near the size of what we call an arreslee. Thanks for coming on and commenting on this query.
What a curious object to come across! It has a story and history, but we'll never know. It does look like some type of sleigh, and so old and weathered.
It could be a plough I suppose, GARDENELF. So delightful to see you KAY--I reckon that we will never know what it is, but it is fun guessing. I am sure that it has a story to tell. You are right...we will never know that object's history or story. It is fun to fantasize though. what a pity that it is just lying there rotting-away. BTW--I am so delighted to see you back on here. I hope that with your work season becoming quieter, that you will be able to come on here more often.
If it was longer than you my guess is it's a small sleigh meant to be pulled by a horse. My husband saw something similar in a dilapidated barn when he was young. The drags are probably removed or rotted away. I still think it's a shame that it has been left out like that. Poor sleigh. Or toboggan. Whatever. It would have been perfect for our little pony Gabriella.
