This fruit grows on a tree. I have not seen the tree. I was given this fruit. The size of a Mango, but flesh like a creamy white yogurt with black seeds. Very sweet flavor. Skin is smooth. Confirmed: A Custard Apple, Cachiman Fruit, Kashiman , Annona reticulata, botanically Thanks to Zuzu's Petals!!!
Hi Freckles, When I was a kid (and dinosaurs roamed the earth), we lived in Haiti for several years and one of the fruits that I recall was commonly called a "Custard Apple" (Annona reticulata, botanically). I remember that they were lumpy and bumpy and had a rather scaly skin before they ripened, looking very different than the smooth, ripe ones (rotten kids that we were, we threw the hard ones around like bombs ). Here is an article I found which may be helpful: http://cosmologicalcabbage.blogspot.com/2008/04/custard-apple.html
Zuzu's Petals. Thank you, that is exactly it. I had just asked a friend from Haiti and that's what he said it was. Your link confirmed it by the description. I thought the fruit was too overripe, but it was perfect. The picture in the link looks like mine. Thanks again.
