This has been growing in my flower bed for quite some time, but today I noticed a stalk of flowers on them... hmm, I did not know this flowered. I have never seen any seed heads ... nothing, I thought it was some bulb that was pretty much just foliage. It is not something I planted, either. I think it is a wildflower from the area. Any ideas?
Thanks. I had no idea. never seen it flower before, that is for sure. it is full shade nor had I ever seen the flower so I was really stumped.
We call then "Donkere Ooievaarsbek"...but just as Palustris said--Geranium phaeum. I have some of these in my flower garden.
Never seen anything like it and I'm a card carrying member of the Geranium Society!! I really like the leaves, very pretty indeed-
It is a real seed weed for us and it comes up everywhere. There are different coloured forms too. Called Mourning Widow geranium here, because of the dark flowers.
Daenna, The flower really is a bit more maroon than the photo. I had to change the apeture on my camera to even get a good picture of it. Otherwise it was too dark to see especially with the japanese maple behind it.
Today we didn't do garden work because of the weather. But what I did do was to go out to this place in the country and bought some flowering plants and veggie starts. I also bought some flowering plants for a pal. My bride and I do his garden for him each year and it is time for that again. We had made plans for today a few weeks ago and now that the day has arrived it is too rainy to clean and plant ...however, he did feed us some fantastic lasagne...with a sumptuous dessert. Well, the weather is due to improve on wednesday, so we will try for that day for the garden work. Fingers crossed.
