Sending an invitation by snail mail and the recipient being shocked because "who the heck uses regular mail?" (my son)
Clothespins...I used to help my Mum hang the washing on the line.
Making references to Ozzie and Harriet, and getting blank stares.
Pong. It was HUGE when computers, and therefore games, first came out.
Having used, therefore knowing how to use a rotary dial phone, a VCR and a TV that doesn't have a remote.
    Flip phones and Razr's.
Car seats for kids were optional. Thank God I didn't kill any of mine.
    Wringer type washers.
Smoking on planes (well, really any enclosed space) was the norm.
    Woolworths.
Living in a house with just one bathroom. Even earlier, living in a house in which the toilet was out the door, down the back steps, and along the side of the garden to the brick structure at the back of the yard.
Milk delivery....in glass bottles. Stored in those little carriers.
    Butchers (raw meat stores)
Pretending to smoke candy "cigarettes" as a child. They even came in what looked like a real cigarette pack.
    Playing marbles.

    Man I'm old! o_O:p

Me too cause I've experienced each and every one first hand too!

I can even add the Milk horse and cart, ice being delivered for the fridge that was like a one cubicle affair, going bare foot all summer cause shoes were expensive, having metal cleats attached to my shoes as they wore out, getting hand me downs from the cousins, helping to install storm windows in winter, learning to use a fountain pen and have an ink well + ink well hole in my desk at school.

Oh man, I forgot the ice box thing!! I remember that, remember a structure that had like two separate compartments, a larger and a smaller one, and it was metal lined I think? The ice man would deliver this giant cube of ice, he'd carry it with a weird grabber thing and put it in the top of the ice box so that the stuff underneath would stay cold.

I remember those metal tips on my shoes, too...toes and heels. Loved the sound they made!!

Remember when getting the milk meant a three legged stool and a 12 quart pail?

All of the above plus: When I remember WALKING to school alone or just with a pal. Wearing short pants into my teens. Going to get a recharged accumulator for the 'Wireless'. Remembering when telephone numbers only had 3 or 4 digits. Asking the telephone operator to connect you. LIGHTING THE GAS LAMPS, No not really but my grandparents had gas lighting in their house. Chopping wood to light the fire...... I think we could go on forever :)

Phone numbers!!!! OMG I'd forgotten about phone numbers! o_O

I STILL remember the phone numbers to the two houses I lived in as a child, once we actually GOT a telephone!! BW-2205, and 24-18-16!

    Wow.

Ok so answer me this....how is it that I can remember those phone numbers (and the street addresses in which those phones resided) clear as day, no problem whatever, and yet I CANNOT recall WHY the hell I walked all the way downstairs to the kitchen once I get there. Or where I put my frigging glasses! Or did I actually turn the water off before I left the house?? Riddle me THAT!:oops::confused:

Well, I still use wooden clothespins to hang the wash on the line.
We have a butcher shop about a half-mile from us. The butcher also specializes in barbecue, but can be asked for special cuts which he happily supplies.
We chop wood for our wood burning stove (which we don't use very much here in Texas, so we have about four year's supply stacked in the barn, but if we ever have a long cold winter, we'll be warm!).
When the electricity goes out, we have a large cooler that we put ice into and then keep our perishables from perishing. Think of it as a styrofoam ice box!
We have several kerosene lamps (complete with kerosene and extra wicks) for when the electricity goes out. Between the lamps and the stove, we have light and enough heat to warm up a frozen meal taken from our large cooler.
We may be older, but we have learned from experience!

After mentioning telephone numbers I remembered our first number 4917 and my girlfriends (eventually wife) 2817. My service number came back to me 4180121, and even my Dad's wartime service number 1865504. Is all this telling us something? ;)

Funny thing...I can remember the first two houses phone numbers better than I remember the one now. We still have a land line phone and I don't use the internet on my phone but I do take pictures. My folks had money back then and I never had to wear hand me downs or go outdoors to use the toilet...My husband didn't get a color television until he was in 7th grade. I do remember having the piece of cellophane or whatever it was and coloring on the television...I think I watched a show called Winky Dink...not sure why that has stuck in my mind.

I had the candy cigs too...and the sugared pop in wax...Yuck...don't know how I ever ate those peeps at Easter time...those have been around for many years. My Mom loved them until she passed, we would buy them for her to snack on at the nursing home.

Ohh! Yes! I remember everything that's been mentioned except an actual 'ice' box though we did have a gas refrigerator once. Did anyone watch 'The Howdy Doody' show?

I watched Howdy Doody too...and so many more. Remember hoop skirts ? doing the stroll and the twist. When I was in 5 grade we had a juke box downstairs and we put all oldies on it, they weren't old then.

I was a tom boy growing up and we always went down to the stream and caught poly wogs. At night we would catch the Lightning bugs, I haven't seen them for a long time.
