A Common Garden Visitor - The Laughing Kookaburra

Fascinating pictures and such a great post....they are a beautiful bird and I do love waking up to a song from the birds....but not all of my neighbors do. I have a small wren that loves to sing his heart out.

I find that song of theirs quite interesting but it would take me a while to get used to it....quite a different sound that the song birds in my back yard.

 

Well... I do see how their call would wake you up!

 

Thanks Frank. That sure does give everyone an idea of why I call them my 'alarm clock'.

They sing just before the sun rises and they're very reliable. Of course they do sing throughout the day and in the evening as the sun sets as well.

What a lovely and comprehensive post. Ah.. so Kookaburras live in family groups. I need sound blocking headphones for my group. Was hoping they would move on but apparently not
They have three sound patterns.. night time gurgling, cranky barking and laughing.
