I was away for about 10days on a family vacation in Japan. This is what I found in my garden from my okra plant that I was contemplating to prune. Overgrown ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) There were a total of 4 of them and only one was still edible. With the few harvested before we went to Japan, we had them for dinner stir fried with dried prawns ... yum! The other 3 I'll save then for seeds
We used to use those in the flower shop in dried arrangements. I never knew what they were for years but as a dried flower they added a different texture to the arrangements. we had a shop owner who was talked into buying a shipload of dried materials because they were the "in" thing... uh huh! we had 10 stores in the chain.... our store had the honor of being the dumping grounds for the other 9... we were very creative in using up the dried materials. I never ever want to see another dried lotus pod or okra stem in . my. life.
Yes mum ...oops! I mean hummerbum I'll stay put Mart you are right! Carolyn they are still on the plant and I'm waiting for them to start drying up. I will not post a photo of them when they are dried Anyway I had promised the seeds to a few of my neighbours so it will not be wasted.
thanks you KK but truly you may post your pics.. I never want to see one in my life to use in a flower arrangement.. seeing yours would be acceptable. in no way do I have to do anything with it. at least you don't have 10,000 of them to use up. we had two or three rows of baskets filled with dried materials. the rows were no less than 30' long. every dried material conceivable that was dried and sold. it took us several years to use them all up. I think every house and business had to have had at least one arrangement in it from our store. .....this was a huge flowershop and a very well to do city as a whole. as I look back I wonder just how many dried arrangements we made and sold.
Not to worry Carolyn, I was just joking about the posting the photo part I can understand how you felt as I had experience it before but not with dried flowers. It was a long time ago really long when I was in my teens when someone without our consent contracted to pack curry powder. It was terrible to see, smell curry powder day in and day out. The process of having to weight it and pack it is just as bad. Everyone smells like curry at the end of the day. It was a great relief when the last bag left and worst of all we were not paid. Anyway I still love to eat curry!
Hi KK - Enjoyed your Japan trip post very much. I've read that okra has 'thorns', but I did not notice any in that photo. Bet you were a bit shocked at the gigantic pods; did you have anything else out of control when you got back? I can not turn my back on the zucchini, 3-4 days over and they turn into baseball bats.
Hi Cuatro-gatos, happy to know you enjoyed my Japan trip post. No okra do not have thorns but fine irritating hairs somewhat like the nettles. Okra does not sting like nettles but just irritating. The other thing that went out of control are the weeds
