So, my daughter lives on Marco Island where the eye of the hurricane passed. I am happy to report that they were in Pensacola when it hit and that their home was barely affected.

However, we live in Central Florida and had a completely different story. About 10:30 the night of the hurricane an oak tree in our front yard split and fell away from the house, taking down the power lines. I didn't know that it split at the time. I only knew we lost power, so I went outside, started the generator and we went to bed.

About 6 am I heard a loud thump and jumped out of bed to find that the rest of the tree had fallen right onto our family room. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the building inspector came and told us what we already knew - that it is not livable. We spent all of last week getting as much as we could out of the house. Now, we just have to see what the insurance adjuster is going to tell us.

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We are trusting God to get us through this and I know that he will. Honestly, I know there are many others with far worse damage than us. I am simply thankful that no one was hurt. The house can be replaced.

I'm glad noone was hurt EG. It's a real pain that this has happened to you. Did it damage any valuable items inside the room? I hope you can get everything fixed up without too much hassle, although I guess that will take a lot of time.

Frank, no valuable items inside the house were damaged. Since it waited til 6 the next morning to fall the rain had already passed. That prevented any water damage. The rain held off all week too, so that was a blessing. I am quite sure it is going to take a while to fix it.

That must have been a huge tree! I'm glad no one was injured and that the rain had stopped so you were able to save most of your belongings.

It must be a great shock!!! Glad nobody got hurt and I can imagine what a headache it is going to be to get it back to livable condition. Hope you get good reliable contractors to do it to avoid unnecessary further headache.
    Be safe Eclecticgarden.
