Thank you Cayuga Morning,..i know most of us will know how to take a cutting and what to do with it,..there are new gardeners who will find that little bit of info helpful,..you know the saying,..a picture paints a thousand words :):whistling:

Philip, I do know how to take cuttings, but it is not something I regularly do. In fact, the last time I took a cutting was.....I don't know when. So I really appreciated your tutorial. I am gradually moving into retirement, so it is something I will have more time to do!

BTW I like your hollyhocks. I am growing some from seed this year for the first time. They are small still, maybe 5". I hope they make it through the winter.

Cayuga Morning,..i will keep my fingers crossed for you that your Hollyhocks all survive the winter,..they will die back over the winter but will be all the better having gone through the stratification period,..mine survive the winter though its a milder winter here,..most people wait until after the last frost in spring to sow Hollyhock seeds but with Hollyhocks its recommended to sew before the first frost in Autumn or winter in order that there is a cold process/stratification period.

When i pulled back my Bedroom
curtains i was greeted with a nice sight,..the sun was shining through a Hydrangea.
    2017-09-05_09.19.15.jpg

Even nicer with the lace curtains pulled up.
    2017-09-05_09.15.03.jpg
Odd thing about this Hydrangea is the colour,..it was pink to begin with,.. then i changed it to Blue,..i missed out on adding the Hydrangea Colorant to it this year and its turned out sort of Mauve.

    How it looks from outside.

Clematis 'Freckles',..putting on a good show with slightly bigger blooms.

Autumn starts here in 8 days,..many summer blooms are fading away,..roses will continue until the frost arrives which keeps colour in the garden.
The last blooms from Musk Mallow 'Malva moschata'.

Another last bloom from Lavatera 'Barnsley Baby'.
    2017-09-05_12.51.28.jpg

A No ID Rose,..a late bloomer and a very tall rose,..approx 8 foot high.
    2017-09-05_12.46.45.jpg

At the very end of the garden next to my growing section is a cutting in its second season,..still in a very large container and doing very well,..its a No ID Rose.

I am forever taking cuttings,..its why i never have to purchase a plant,..i do have to give away some cuttings when too many take.

Just two of several roses cuttings taken this season and well established by now,..these will be pink blooms and give away to good gardens.
    Sept 12th 2017. 009.jpg

Next season should see more Big Leafed plants,..i have eight Arum Lily plants in various locations,..all getting bigger by the month so there are five in this new allocated spot.
    2017-09-05_12.54.43.jpg
The biggest one will stay put as it is thriving alongside the greenhouse.

I only get a few weeds in my garden and those tend to be low growing weeds that i call Chick Weed,..what i do get are lots of Ferns popping up and i tend to pot them then use them as a gap filler when some plants have finished blooming and die back.

Harts Tongue Fern,..probably my favorite as they can be taken indoors and look good with a green shiny leaf.

Some in the outdoors,..this one is a bigger version of the same Fern.

Just to bore anyone looking in,..some more of the Ferns

    It starts like below.
    July 4th 2017. 009.jpg

Ends up like below after 13 years,
    July 4th 2017. 007.jpg

The ones that are allowed remain where they started.
    July 4th 2017. 008.jpg

    July 4th 2017. 006.jpg

Change of colour,..most of my geraniums are late blooming,..just starting this week with Autumn starting on the 22nd,..and frost supposed to arrive tomorrow.
    2017-09-12_09.53.15.jpg

Does anyone have this coloured Vine Weed?,..its bloomed like this for the past few years,..in the same spot so i presume its always the same plant,..none like it anywhere else around here,..the usual is white.

    Mophead Hydrangea,..was a pink,..now a blue,..probably the last bloom this season.
    2017-09-16_09.48.21.jpg

    2017-09-16_09.48.17.jpg

Two images from the same bush,..No Id rose,..for a change this was not from a cutting,..it was saved from an abandoned garden,..alas no tag.
    2017-09-16_09.44.30.jpg

    2017-09-16_09.44.58.jpg

Another No Id,..these blooms are so heavy and dense that they seldom get to open before the outer petals have started to discolor.
    2017-09-16_09.45.46.jpg

Two images of the geranium,..its hard to capture a good image of a red bloom but i think these will pass.

One never knows what will occur next?,..i came home at 2.15 on Monday to see this sight,..no note to say who did this and why.

This is how it should look,..its a Spotted Laurel 'Acuba japonica crotonifolia'.
    24th Oct 2013 084.jpg

After five days i managed to get the Local Authority,..told them someone had vandalized the bush and asked did they know anything about it,..they said no work was scheduled for my area.

A neighbor informed me it was the Local Authority?,..plus they were also working in the adjoining park.

The Local Authority are coming to see the damage on Monday morning,..they suggested that perhaps i was blocking access to an Electricity Meter,..to which i replied,..if the damage was done to get access to an Electricity Meter,..there is one there but not in use,.. and access still can not be made,..so why was the bush vandalized?,..i planted this bush 13 years ago.

Satisfaction,..the Local Authority sent someone to see the damage,..admitted there was a mistake and stated it was a bush on the opposite side in a public area that should have been cut,..apology was offered and i accepted,..providing they removed the remainder of the Laurel,..roots and all,..then covered the area with gravel,..that was agreed and work to begin next week,..it will be interesting to see will they keep to what was agreed.

What a bummer Philip. I am glad though that you were able to get an acknowledgement from the Authority.

BTW, love that lavatera several posts back & I love those hart ferns. Very glossy.

Cayuga Morning,..i think i let them off too light,.. a 2 foot Spotted Laurel costs £30.00 $35.82 mine was touching 6 foot,..anyway i will think of something fast growing to replace it,..like Cape Fuchsia.

Ah the Lavatera 'Barnsley Baby',..i am just about to start pruning it as it has gone very tree like at the base,..it will need lots of water and planned pruning,..i have managed to grow a cutting from it quite easy enough and it should be ready for next season,..its a very nice flower.

You must have plenty of Ferns in the woods next to your house?,..the Harts Tongue Fern is a beauty.
