Being in a third world country, anyone that have a hammer and a nail without knowing what it is for can be a carpenter or contractor.
Yes there is no certification for craftsman here. :(

KK, that is just pathethic. no inspections? you could burn the whole neighborhood down with one misplaced nail... right through wiring. our neighbors had that happen. they were having their house remodeled. they had moved everything out that they could to make it easier and someone nailed through the wire somewhere. since no one was living in the house at the time--the house was fully engulfed when it was noticed. my brotherinlaw was coming to work and said their was a big fire behind us. black smoke billowing up over the woods. it was a total loss. they had to rebuild from the ground up then. when we remodeled our kitchen we had the same thing happen. thankfully I caught it when I went to use the outlet. it kept tripping the GFI. thankfully it was an easy fix. if it haden't been I think we would have just removed the outlet. otherwise the wire would have needed to been replaced all the way back to the breaker box.

Nice to know nothing happened, whew!!! It is because of things like that I learned how to do it myself. When we bought our first house I had someone changed the wiring of the whole house because it was a very old house. When I inspected it I told that guy whether he really did anything, I was furious and told him to get lost. I decided to do it myself even though I did not had any experience but I had some friends who are electrical engineers who I can consult :)
Uncertified tradesman, no inspection and we still can get insurance coverage!

Oh goodness KK! This would make my head explode!!!
My husband has been a contractor for many many years. He would never work that way!
He is finding that the young ones coming into the trade sometimes do not have the same standards or work ethic. I can see why you were frustrated! Hope it is turning out better by this time.

Thank you Kay, my head did explode. I think it is just the people in this part of the country are just laid back and feel that the world owe them a living.

Normally sparkies are well trained but there are some real rogues out there who are very bad at there jobs.
You also get a lot of odd job or handyman services that will have a go with little experience of electrical installation.

LittleJ the sparkies here have no formal training, they just learn by observation and experience and they do not need to be certified. This sparky I am referring to is an old man who have lots of experience and I know he is just dam bloody lazy taking things the easy way out.
I am not going to comment any further because …:mad::mad:
