This pot has new occupants this year. A wire mesh desk or locker accessory.

 

Serendipitous timing saved this bucket from the trash to become a planter. Lined with window screen.

purple... where do you find these great containers?

 

I made the chicken wire container, the cricket bucket was "accidentally stolen" from my husband, the rectangle purple wire thingie was @ a used store for $3, the golf ball bucket & wire basket (from a deep freezer?) were rescued from other people's trash, and the grill lid used to be in use, covering the grill, but the legs rusted off of the grill, leaving the lid & grill body as "pots."

I'm trying to find & use anything I can for containers, to get my plants completely away from fugly plastic pots. ...without spending a bunch of $ on pots. I'd rather spend all plant budget on actual plants.

Window screen makes it possible to make a planter out of so many items. Also landscape fabric, but I prefer the screen because it is easier to make holes through it, and for aesthetics. I lined a couple wire objects with landscape fabric & when visible, it just looks weird (to me.) I'm going to redo one of those this year.

Some of them are hanging from re-purposed hooks/arms that were attached to plastic pots. I hung some of the pots using steel wire (from a roll, $2-$5 @ a hardware store,) and some with 50-pound fishing line.

 

well, they look great once they fill out. I would love to find some of these varieties up here to work with. I love that deep red tradescantia? in the one photo. I will have to start scouting the markets for what is available around here. I can keep some of this stuff in a greenhouse over the Winter if I need to.

I guess so. It looked similar to the wandering jew... I am going to have to try a few of these.

 

They are similar, Tradescantia & Tripogandra genera are both in Commelinaceae family.

 

And to think..I threw away a 6ft screen door with screen still attached. Been waiting on the person who took the rest of the door to come get it. I am done. Now it is gone. Darn.

 

Awww, it was probably a good idea at the time.

 

My husband and I made this succulent pallet for my mom. I need to get a pic of it in the morning with the sun shining on the plants. There's SO MANY baby succulents in there. I was propagating all winter to make enough to get this started.


The back is lined with landscape fabric & inside the front is lined with window screen. Holes can be easily poked or slit in the screen to insert plants.
