Hey all! I'm a newbie gardener from Montreal. I set up a SFG box in my backyard a few weeks ago and I thought about joining a community to learn everything about plants and gardens.

    See you around!

Hi opeth 771, and a warm welcome from Idaho. I have never heard of a SFG box before. Could you tell me what it is?

opeth771. This is a perfect opportunity to ask a SFG question. Have you thought about adding a vertical section to the existing box? It would still be within the confines of one square foot.

Thank you. I'm familiar with square foot gardening just didn't associate the initials with it. o_O:)

If you make a garden box(first box) to plant whatever, you do not utilize the space above the box. If you build an additional planting area above the first box with enough space so as to not block the sunlight to the bottom box. You get to use vertical space that would otherwise be wasted. This works well if floor space is at a premium. A second 'floor'(box) above the first 'floor'. Vertical gardening.
