    Hi all,

This chrysalis is hanging on our shed door. Can anyone ID it?

Doesn't appear to be a Monarch, it doesn't have the ridge near the top.....Queen, Viceroy, Spicebush Swallowtail and White Admiral butterflies all make a green chrysalis. Check out photos of the caterpillars for each of those to see if you have seen one in your yard. The Queen and Viceroy are two that mimic the looks of the Monarch Butterfly, the other do not resemble the Monarch.

@toni I went back to check it out....after looking at a post you made some years ago of a monarch chrysalis. Mine has that gold drop ridge too...it is difficult to see because it is facing the shed door.

It would make sense to be a monarch. We have several stands of milkweed in the yard & I see what I assume to be monarchs flitting about my garden.

    Thanks for the id help!

I wondered if that ridge could be on the other side but asking about it just skipped my mind. I have a friend who has a bed in her back yard filled with Conoclinium coelestinum (Blue Mistflower) and covered with Monarchs in the Fall. Seeing several dozen of them flitting from flower to flower is a beautiful sight.
