Howdy folks! I stumbled upon this site after nearly killing a drooping houseplant, and decided right then and there to join the fun. I recently moved into a new apartment in June, and have acquired a little over 10 plants out of sheer desire to add some greenery into my urban life. I can successfully identify around half of them. The others I kept the labels on the pots so I won’t forget if I end up on a google hunt for answers. About my plants — I’ve got two Boston ferns that kicked off my plant addiction. They’re full and healthy, and I must’ve lucked out because they LOVE where they hang. I have no doubt that I’ll be posting here about how to keep them alive in the winter. Tip-to-tip, they’re just under 3 feet. I’ve also got a pothos plant that’s living it up in a sunny window, and the growth in the past 3 months has been tremendous. I’m definitely intrigued about turning some of its clippings into more baby pothos. The others I’m still trying to find good places in the apartment to home. I hope & pray that none of them wither under my care. It’s the first “garden” that I’ve ever had — unfortunately apartment life only gives you so many options. My skill level is barely above novice. This millennial needs all the expert advice she can get — guys, please help me keep my little garden alive!

Hi 20somthinggardener, welcome to our friendly garden group. I'm Jerry from Chelmsford MA. Houseplants are a joy to have in an apartment. Finding the right place for each can be a challenge. Typically lighting and humidity and knowing when to water are concerns for beginners. Your variegated Swedish Ivy looks healthy and happy. Any plant problems can usually be addressed by any of several members with extensive knowledge of houseplants. Enjoy your houseplants as you learn with Gardenstew. Jerry P.S. we love pictures.
Thank you!! That is helpful — I bought a mister but had no idea which plants to use them on and which to skip over. Erring on the side of caution, I wasn’t misting this guy. Now it seems that I should definitely mist with room temperature water. Yes, my biggest concerns right now are going to be basic ones — when to water, how to help my Boston ferns survive the upcoming fall and winter, what’s this specific plant, etc. I’m sure as time goes on I’ll have much more specific questions. All in all, I’m here to learn
Here are some happier members of my apartment garden... I think this one is a (golden? Neon?) pothos plant. I love it a lot and bought from a garden center, whereas the others have mostly come from Home Depot & Lowe’s. When I bought it, it didn’t have much growth spilling over the sides at all. I’m really pleased to watch it grow so excessively.

I’m sure I could try! Unfortunately I don’t think I have anything that has attractive flowers or any at all for that matter...I have some big Boston ferns, a neon pothos, some kind of variegated Swedish ivy possibly, and then some others I can’t identify. None of them have produced any buds for flowers nor does that seem to be in the cards for them. At one point when I worked as a receptionist, my boss bought me a really lovely orchid but I didn’t grab it when I left that job...a coworker told me it died not long after I kept that alive for the better part of 6 months
Such a shame about the orchid...as I remember buying my mom one years back and it was scented, oh the aroma around the living room was glorious
