Sorry for the ambiguous description, I'm new to plants and this little baby plant was actually in a pot with a portulacaria afra that I bought. I decided to leave the tiny plant alone because it didn't look like a weed. I'm pretty sure this is a house plant that somehow snuck into the portulacaria pot at the nursey, probably from a seed. Looks like it will a nice looking, large plant because in just 3 months or so it's gotten big. It doesn't look like a succulent. And the stem is a reddish hue. Thanks for any tips, have a great one!
@percythetrain we all start somewhere with gardening and i'm useless with ID of plants..unless they're something I know but you should get a reply mate.
Thanks Gail! I'll post another picture once it's grown some more. Maybe it'll help ID it better. It doesn't make a huge difference to know as I plan to repot it either way, but it might help to know what kind of soil it likes, etc
Does it just have the one stem or more shoots coming off it?... as it looks silimar to a young "Rhododendron"...there's many different sorts I had one in my garden and just liked flowering when it wanted to and some are like that but the budding of the stem is similar as you can see from my garden picture...they grow leggy and have stages of losing their leaves plus flowers and leaves come different according to what plant you have
Wow these leaves really are similar and the stem is the same reddish hue. It's very pretty It's possible it's this plant or a related one. The one I have only has one stem so far but it may be growing more on its side. I'll try to compare it again once it's grown a bit more. When I first got it it only had 2 leaves, like it had just germinated. Now it has about 7 that are a similar shape as the rhododendron.
@percythetrain I've dropped on a video...where it shows young ones like yours on single shoots and moves to them slightly larger but when he goes back to the smaller ones they do resemble yours in my eyes plus you'll see the different leaves on them....mine lost it's leaves the one year which they do anyway and because it looked so bare I took a risk and cut it down to the roots and it took a year for it to grow back like that.
