We had some sleet and it got down to freezing last night. I just checked on my chard, and the whole thing is floppy and wilted :( oh no! I imagine it will bounce back soon, at least I sure hope so!

More flowers are opening on the jalapeno! They look so pretty!

Was down to 27 this morning !! Very unusual weather for this time of year ! What happened to global warming ! We could have used it !
I try to pick anything like the chard before a blast of cold weather ! If you pick the larger leaves its easy to protect the rest !! Couple of sticks and throw a dish towel over it ! As long as the roots are ok it should come back fine !

I have heard conflicting predictions about this year. Farmer's Almanac predicts colder than normal winter, but Weather Channel predicts warmer than normal winter. With Texas, we'll probably get both!

Some unexpected good news: the sage has begun to sprout! I count three as of now, and I planted quite a few seeds!

You are right there ! You never know what Texas weather will be until it gets here ! We never have below freezing temps this time of year ! Was 23 this morning !

I put my seedlings outside for the weekend, and when I came back they had all fallen over! It had gotten pretty cold for here so I brought them inside and hoped that they had survived.

After two days they all popped back up again happy and healthy! It's still fairly cold though, so I'm keeping them inside until we have some more predictable warm weather. I was so happy that they sprouted that I don't want to lose them just yet.

I know I'm going to have to remove many of the seedlings. At what point should I start thinning them out?

The plants have all faired lovely these last few weeks!

My jalapeno has five peppers growing strong, and hopefully a new little one starting up! I can't quite tell yet but it looks like it's the start of a new baby pepper :) It's also growing a green sprig at the very bottom of the stem next to the dirt. I wonder what that is?

The oregano is going wild! The sage is getting tall. The basil is just everywhere with great big leaves!

I am very happy to report that four of my broccoli plants now have small heads. Only about as big as a half dollar right now, but growing!

So far none of the brussels sprouts have sprouted anything noteworthy, but they are getting larger! Well, all except the tiny one I have talked about before. That guy just seems the same size. Sometimes I wonder if WalMart switched him out with a silk plant, because he hasn't grown at all and hasn't wilted either! Lol :p

The peppermint has had some ups and downs, but not in a devastating way or anything. The cold snaps have it drooping, but then it gets warm again and it perks back up and starts growing more, then it'll get cold again. I've just left it alone to do its thing!

And the chard? Nothing slows down the chard except running out of water. Right now there are little brownish yellow spots on the leaves and I'm wondering what that could be. I keep meaning to get a picture but keep forgetting when it's light enough outside to do it. Recently I was away for several days and she drooped really badly from lack of water, so I wonder if that could have contributed to it.

Congrats @DogThumbs nice to hear they're taking off and some are always better than others at coming through and my fingers are :fingerscrossed: so your weather lets them keep coming nicely in their own way :)

Alas, today my jalapeno was struck down in the prime of life. It has gotten very warm so I put it outside today. I checked on it a few hours later and the stem had totally snapped in half at the lower 1/3 of the plant. It was barely hanging on by a bit of the outside stem.

I assume it was a bit of abrupt wind that did it in. It's been inside so long that the plant probably wasn't used to that anymore. Next time I'll definitely use a stake.

This is not a complete loss, though! I'm ripening the five peppers that were on the plant in the window sill, and a few weeks ago I noticed a growth at the bottom of the stem and now it has leaves! I'm hoping this is viable growth :)

RIP to the big part of the jalapeno plant that I had come to know and love though. I will not forget you and your five lovely future contributions to my dinner.

    Is that pepper plant splint-able?

Does that mean to hold together the two parts that broke? It was barely hanging on by a bit of the outside stem so I thought it was done for :( I went ahead and cut it off yesterday. I didn't know you could put it back together, if that's what splintable means.

The little sprout on the lower stem is looking nice though!
