I learned how to make this type of bonsai called "kokedama" from a Japanese artist at a "Makers' Faire" using a houseplant, soil and moss sheets. The plant I used is Dieffenbachia camile, and though it has a few leaves less than when I made it, I'm happy it survives still!
Hi @plantmom I think it looks lovely and do you just leave it like that in a ball and if so how many times to you water it?
Thank you! Yes, you leave it in the ball of moss, and give it a good soak about 1x week (or whenever the moss starts to feel dry). It is supposed to last for about 2-3 years, then repot or re-ball it.
It's doing alright, thank you Gail! Lost some leaves and now growing a bit slowly but I see new leaves unfurling, so I am happy! Maybe I will feed it some fertilizer this weekend...
Hello plantmom sorry for being late replying...new leaves unfurling is always a good sign and fertilizer will do it the world of good...I put plant food all around my plants outside and some of it's still by them as it works into the gravel slowly...I did them twice this year spring and September.
