My jalapeno has been inside this winter, but now that it's warmed up I put it back outside. Now it seems to be covered in these little guys! Any idea what they are, and how I can get rid of them?
Aphids. get a spray bottle of soapy water Dawn ivory etc... 1 T to about a gallon of water and give it a bath. covering every part of the plant. under the leaves. the stems. every leaf. every new bud starting to open. do not rinse it off. let it sit for an hour. then, if you have to... rinse it off. you can spray it with a strong spray of garden hose water first if you want but you really want to kill each and every aphid on that plant.
I used to bring some things indoors for the winter way back when....but learned that if I did, I needed to dunk the entire plant (not the soil) upside down in some soapy water and let it stay that way for some minutes before taking it back out. Sometimes I did it more than once. It cured my problem for me.
Thank you! I used a spray bottle several hours ago to apply soapy water to the plant. I just checked on it and it doesn't seem like the bugs have died yet, they still move around a bit?
no, they should not still be moving. spray more. maybe even add a bit more soap to the sprayer. it doesn't need to feel really soapy but it should have a bit of foam or bubbles if you agitate it.
I treated it again last night, and today the aphids have turned from a light white-green to brown and fall off very easily. Thank you so much for helping me with this! Should I do anything else to make sure there are none left? I can't seem to see anything right now.
Not really, just keep an eye on it. you may have killed them all and a new crop can invade anyday. If you see them again... spray again.
