In 2014 I purchased some “new to me” mini iris. Our wet summer, fall and winter meant some didn’t survive. Some are still struggling but a few are starting to clump nicely and will have more than a couple of blooms. Five years of waiting every spring in anticipation. As the red Japanese maple grows well past its 10 foot height some may be getting shaded more than they would like. More are blooming this year, evidently finally climatizing to our weird weather. My original purple variety has always been prolific so this long slow wait for the others to multiply has been character building. The original mini given to me by a friend. They have been divided and are scattered around the yard. The dogs over fertilized this poor ruby mini. They are now banned from the front yard. And then I have two varieties with lots of blooms but they flower a little later. Will wait in anticipation to see what color they are. I am thinking rust and yellow, but am not certain since I lost two varieties. I will be happy with whatever color zither are I can say my woodland garden has not kept me in suspense and is probably better suited to my microclimate.
Jewell all your iris are so lovely. I do have a favourite though and that's the ones in the third photograph - stunning.
Gorgeous! You have such a variety of colors and they are all beautiful. I also love the ones in the third photo
Thank you Netty and Eileen. The little boo iris is a fun one. It was our very own domn that introduced me to the various varieties available. So much fun learning from other Stewbies. Here is a new one blooming. I love the ruffles and the vibrant blue. I still have three other varieties that haven’t yet bloomed. Kind of like Christmas morning for me.
Beautiful iris Jewell. I can't decide if my favorite is the 3rd photo or this very last one you posted!
The last one is supposed to be Raindance Returns, although the color is so much more vibrant than what is pictured online. It is supposed to rebloom. I was shocked that Schreiners had my 2013 order still on my account. Nice to look back at the names, since I don’t tend to remember them.
Here are two more. This first is an unknown red with an orange-ish beard, and the second one is Thrice Blessed. I really like the white beard to contrast with the yellow. It is supposed to have repeated blooming periods. Only one last one left to bloom.
Last one blooming...i think. (Have one nice clump with no blooms...could it be a later blooming type?) I had thought I’d lost this one, but several little tubers are present this year.
I am happy for you, Jewell....annnnd for myself--- that I can see a foto of it. This last one really is a looker, isn't it.
Thank you all for your kind remarks. Looks like most are almost finished blooming and I will need to move a few so they have ample room to expand
Wow...they are all so beautiful. I had lost so many because of wet weather and the ground staying wet too long. I love them but had to give up on them...thanks for sharing so I could enjoy your beauties...
