Will put this here as it is part of the garden. I feel relieved and chuffed and grateful. We have a Car port. The roof is clear PVC sheeting which needs replacing. At some time someone has hit the roof and bent the side piece. It meant that the guttering sloped downwards so the water ran out over the top of the end. Try as I might I could not straighten the bent metal. So, today I thought I would try a different approach. It found a piece of wood which I screwed to the bent frame, so that at least I had a level side to the Car port. Idea then struck. If I undid the bent piece from the frame I could lift the frame and rebolt it higher up the end. That at least would make the end of the port the correct level. The piece of wood would still give me a level edge along the side. I undid the bolts and the roof collapsed. We had to quickly take all the plants that were under the car port out and remove the old PVC sheets. That was a job and a half as the bolts have all rusted solid. Managed to support the roof on my step ladder. While I was working the Double Glazing company surveyor arrived to check some measurements for the windows and doors. "Having trouble?" he says. So I explained the problem. "Right" says he. Between us we managed to bolt back the end piece to the bent member. Then he proceeded to jack up the whole thing until the bend was straightened out. He also drilled holes in the bent piece so that we could use the plank I had screwed to the end to keep the bent piece in place. Now we have a straight roof again. He was here for about 3/4 of an hour doing it. What a gentleman. Restores ones faith in humanity.

It certainly does!! He probably enjoyed getting his hands dirty instead of just surveying for double glazing.

Must say that if we had not already got some things on order from his company, we would have ordered stuff there and then!

What a Shanghai you are creating and in short order to boot. Love watching each step of the way and can’t wait to see it a year or so after everything is in place and settled in. You are truly amazing.

In a way we are lucky that the structure of the garden is good and all we are really having to do is repair 5 years or more neglect. Sadly though we are having to remove plants which it might have been nice to keep, but they are so infested with weeds that we just cannot clean them out, so go they have to. Mind we did spend a huge amount of money yesterday on plants from a Discount store.

Living for decades in the same house, I feel neighbor yard changes are always a growth process for my psychi, but we adapt and eventually learn to enjoy the changes (since I am not moving :whistling:). The shock of seeing your yard and view change because of someone else can be, just that a shock. With time I am sure they will come to enjoy the lovely garden you are creating.:D

Boss tells me that while I was taking stuff to the Recycling Yard, the neighbours were out removing the rest of the Ivy which we could not reach, from the fence. So, perhaps they are not too bothered by what we did.

The stump at the end was a dead conifer. I leant on it and it fell over, so no problems removing that one.

Another stump removed, the conifers trimmed so that we can clear out the Ivy and Bindweed underneath. Eventually all three of the conifers will be cut down.
