We have a winesap, a pink lady, and a yellow delicious. All three have small apples on them (about the size of a quarter). We are thrilled! I've thinned once, since the apples were growing in clusters of two or three. My big decision now is should I spray, and if so, with what? Any advice from you apple growers would be greatly appreciated. Plea for advice about pears coming soon!
Jane ask at the county extension service for a spray guide for your area. What we use probably isn't available to you. Some sprays are restricted and you need a spray license to buy them. "Over the counter" sprays like neem might be an option.
What are you spraying for ?? Insects ?? or ?? Now with all the rain we have had,, something for fungal problems would be a smart move ! I usually wait till dry weather to spray for insects ! I use the same thing on the trees than I use in the garden,, permethrin ! Takes very little,,inexpensive and easy to find !
Hello Jane. What would you be spraying against? I am not a good one to ask about spraying as I basically only spray against aphids (not my apple, plum or blueberry trees/bushes, and you already know what I use for that. I am such a scaredy-cat to spray because I am over-protective of my bees and the solitary bees and butterflies that are in my garden. Having said that, there may be something safe that you can use...but like I said--what are you spraying against?
