    Hiya Cayu--

Oh my word! What a good-looking meal that was that you had. I do very much like your presentation of this dish-- a proper restaurant lay.

First of all, there is a "gehaktkruidenmix" that we bought from the market in town. Almost everyone here has the mix in their home ready-made. However, if you want to make the mix yourself, here are the constituents of the powder:

    2 tsp nutmeg powder
    2 tsp white pepper
    1 tsp paprika powder
    1 tsp ginger powder
    1 tsp ground coriander seed
    1 tsp onion powder
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1/4 tsp chili powder
    1/4 tsp clove powder
    1 tsp salt

Most people here who make the mix for themselvesmake a large batch and keep it on a jar to use prn.

For one pound of ground beef: 1 whole egg, 3 Tablelspoons of bread crumbs and one Tablespoon of the spice mix, finely chopped onion (optional)... Then combine it with your hands.

Fry the meatballs in a mix of butter and olive oil...add some water and sort of thickening agent (like cornflour) when they are done.

Addendum: Here the gravey/sauce is poured over the meatballs and potato's just before serving.
Also, obviously, you may choose not be precise (like my Bride) and just add the constituents "by 'feel' and
    'guestimation' ".

Sjoerd, tell your bride that people who just want to put food on the table don't cook by "feel" and "guestimation". True cooks (and chefs) know when to add, when to take away, and when to sniff and taste. I think your bride falls into the latter category!

Cayu---We liked your salmon piccies so much, we went and had it too. It was not as classy as yours in appearance, but it was muy sabroso:

This fish had no skin, and the little au gratin potato's were lovely.

Last night we had spaghetti and used chorizo sausage in the sauce. Not too spicy but I will correct that next time by using some of my new oregano plant. It's the variety called "hot and spicy"!

    I can't wait!

Tonight is garlic shrimp with brown rice, green salad, and baby carrots with the last of the sugar peas. (The noise you hear in the background is my husband doing a happy dance over "last of the sugar peas." I may have overplanted.)

We just got back from a camping trip in Acadia, Maine. One night we got back to the camp site at 7:00 after a long day of hiking. My husband went to the store for pasta, zucchini, tomatoes and kielbasa. My daughter & I made the fire. We had a delicious dinner of the above at 8:30 at night! Everything tastes better when you are hungry and camping!

@Dirtmechanic please tell her we love Maine. Ask her if she has been to the National Park....Acadia. We had a wonderful time hiking. Great mountain views of Somes Sound, the Atlantic Ocean, islands, etc.

I am on a whole food plant base life style for the last 2 years. I had lentil meatloaf, peas and corn and small amount of mash potatoes. I made some mushroom gravy. It was so good!!
